As the birthplace of freeskiing and with the most inbounds “no fall” zones, Crested Butte Mountain Resort is not for the faint of heart. It is widely known for its challenging terrain, uncrowded slopes, over 300 inches of annual snowfall, and sunny skies. Due to Crested Butte’s isolated location, almost five hours from Denver, and its small airport, the nearby Gunnison/Crested Butte Regional Airport, you’ll often feel like you have some of the 1,167 acres all to yourself.

The North Face, with an exposed 40-degree fall line that looks out over the entire valley is not to be missed. Rambo, located below Powder Rock Glade, is the steepest cut run in the United States and double black diamonds like Teocalli Bowl and Extreme Limits provide quite a challenge as well.
If you are looking for something a bit mellower, don’t worry; Crested Butte is known to be a great mountain to improve on. With varying terrain, there is a nice progression for skiers and boarders to get better. A variety of blue runs are located around the East River and Teocalli lifts and Paradise Bowl serves as a nice cruiser.
The town of Crested Butte has no traffic lights or chain stores, offers some good restaurants and relaxed nightlife. A recent base village upgrade, a new learning area for the ski school, and a move to focus more on customer service have been added in recent years to beef up the experience in what some call “Colorado’s Last Great Ski Town”. So if you are looking to challenge yourself, improve your skiing, or get your taste of a real ski town, Crested Butte is the place to be.
