As one of the hosts of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games and as a current training locale for the US Ski Team, Park City Mountain Resort has plenty to offer skiers and snowboarders. From high-speed cruisers to hikes to bowls, Park City has it all. And as the only resort with life service to and from happening Main Street in downtown Park City, it has some of the best skier access in the area. Not to mention a substantial 360 ... inches of average annual snowfall.
Park City’s summit is at 10,000 and it has over 3,300 acres spread across seven peaks and nine bowls. Its 108 trails are split into 17% easier, 50% more difficult and 33% most difficult. Park City also has a Signature Runs program which includes 13 black diamond, or advanced, runs that are groomed daily to allow intermediate skiers and boarders experience advanced terrain. The Signature Runs and the wide variety of terrain provide a good environment for skiers and boarders of every level.
On deep days, powderhounds head to the Black Forest Glades, located on the skier’s right of powder-favorite McConkey’s Bowl. Or to Blueslip Bowl off Thayne’s Lift. For some mellower stashes, try the trees on the sides of the more challenging Jupiter Bowl. There are some nice groomers to cruise off the Ski Team Lift or check out the new blue run, Vista, under Silver Star Lift.
Known for being a real family resort, Park City’s ski school is great too. The kids’ classes are limited to five students per class. There is some good night skiing via First Time and Pay Day lifts seven days a week starting at Christmas. Park City is also known for being super-accessible, rated #1 in access by the readers of Ski Magazine in 2009. It is located a short 35-minute drive from Salt Lake International Airport, and the city of Park City has a free skier-friendly transit system. Park City’s Main Street also offers plenty of dining, lodging, and drinking options, making Park City Mountain Resort even more appealing.
