Mountain Creek Reviews & Tips (79)

Don't believe the hype, Mountain Creek is fantastic as long as you come in with reasonable expectations. It's not Vail, but it has 1,000 vertical and a lot of trails to choose from. If you ski/board with imagination - taking the hits on the side, blasting down the black diamonds, and enjoying the incredible views, you'll have a blast. And it's 47 miles from the Lincoln Tunel. Highly recommend the food at Schuesse, the bar in the upstairs of the lodge, as well as the bbq joint at South. There are some drawbacks at the Creek... it's true that customer service is pretty bad. I hear horrors about the rental program, and lift lines can be an issue on Sat. afternoons. But make up for it by taking some speed runs at night - when it's always empty - or sneaking under the ropes and hitting some of the bike trails in natural snow. Have a good attitude and Mountain Creek will overdeliver.

Unfortunately, experienced a bad accident on the second run of the day. Was taken out on the bunny hill by an out of control snowboarder, suffered a concussion and have been out of work the entire week. I understand we all ski at our own risk, but don't understand the hill not offering any kind of replacement tickets or rentals. This accident ended the day for six of us who all paid for the entire day, plus three rentals. I don't understand why any kind of reimbursement could not be offered. Thanks to the Liftopia deal the wallet wasn't crushed.

Disappointed but the kids liked it. If you are renting equipment, either rent before you go or go straight to the rental area, you can not rent at the terrain park. Lockers are expensive, terrain park cafe is horrible. The layout is confusing and the shuttle is slow but if you like to waste, go for it. Took my almost 2 hours from the time I got my lift tickets to get on the lift line and that took forever. I'll stick to Shawnee or other mountains thanks...

For this time of the year, the granular ice wasn't too bad! There were barely any patches of ice and it wasn't too crowded.........until 12pm hit. Then what felt like 1000 people came onto the mountain. It didn't really affect the riding until you hit a major intersection in the trails. But if you're a little more advanced, you can either play in the park or the harder trails and be fine. All in all, a positive experience at a place notorious for bad experiences.

I took my kids here for the first time this season. My son loved it,but my daughter was a little scared. The lodge is beautiful! New and clean. The prices for the food were very expensive, but really convenient. Great hot chocolate.

My two teenage sons loved Mountain Creek. It was our first time there. Well worth the drive. The lines for the ski lifts were short, and the snowboarding was excellent. I liked that the Terrain Park (with the advanced jumps and grinds, etc.), was on the other side of the mountain. No annoying teens to deal with. I hung out in the lodge. Very comfy. There is a great spot upstairs to the right, with a fireplace and great couches. I found the food a bit overpriced, but well worth the convenience. Bring snacks if you can. The staff was friendly and the place is clean and well organized. We'll definitely be going back again.

If you like waiting on lines for over an hour, enjoy rubbery food and icy slopes Mountain Creek is the place for you! I never leave reviews but I had to for this place. They do not take their business seriously at all. I will never go there again.

Went on Saturday, Feb 16th and surprisingly there were hardly any lines. Key is to get away from the main lift/gondola and get to the lifts that take you to the other peaks because there was truly no wait at these lifts. Also, don't expect long or killer runs - Mountain Creek's black diamonds are really like blue intermediates in upstate NY or Vermont.

Went to the mountain right after the snow storm on Saturday, February 9. The slope was not trimmed at all, but, at least, it were not many people on the slope that day. However, the following day, on Sunday, the slope was not trimmed again. Crowded base, 30 minutes waiting time to get on the lift, and, as a result, firm and icy terrain. It was unpleasant skiing. We went down along the improvised moguls only two times and left for home. Horrible experience. Never again!

Went on a Monday and it was fairly empty. The main lift was down for several hours. Parked at Vernon and boarded to South Side. It started raining which sucked but can't control that. Stayed and boarded for a few hours till very soaked and cold. We were ready to leave and it turns out the shuttle isn't offered on certain days. That was pretty poor to me. We had to leave the girls and take the 30 minute trip to Vernon to get to our cars. We weren't alone there about 20 people waiting for the shuttle that wasnt in operation. It was a horrible freezing and wet trip to the car. That was enough to make me think twice of going to Mountain Creek again.

Try renting equipment somewhere else if you want to save time. There are decent rental stores on the way there. The cafeteria offers good food but if you can spare some extra bucks try the Hawks Nest. Reservation is a must and the food is excellent! The staffs' services are great too. Try having dessert and coffee outside the deck by the round fireplace afterwards. Your wife or girllfriend will be impessed. The slopes are good at best as far as snow quality, length, and choices. But the mountain is plenty good enough for beginner and intemediate skiers. Get there early on weekends and get as many runs you can in the morning to avoid the midafternoon crowd. Night skiing can be more fun if you can stay later. I saved $50 for family of four one day weekend using Liftopia.

The staff at Mountain Creek are immature, unmotivated and rude. If I had not purchased tickets in advance I would not have stayed. The slopes were full of unattended children who loved to lope into the way of the faster skiiers, the lines for the lifts were long and unruly and the staff at the ticket counters as well as the rental counter were slow and sarcastic. I had not even had a chance to approach the counter for my ticket and the young man behind the counter treated me as if I were in his way and he was doing me a favor. I used to enjoy this as a nice day trip, but will never again waste my time or money there. The tickets are not cheap, nor are the rentals. The only thing I found cheap was the quality of the staff.

Went on Fri. 1/4/13 with my 7 and 9 year old daughters who still had off from school. It was relatively empty which helped create a great time. The advise I'd give to all customers is to make sure that bar code on you lift ticket is printed darkly. Ours were very light and caused all kids of difficulty at the lifts when they tried to scan them. I didn't want to waste time to have them exchanged, but in the long run it wasted our time. The advise I have for Mountain Creek is to re-pitch your bunny slope (Progression Center) in one direction, down hill, not side to side. My children who are learning to snowboard kept sliding towards the magic carpet since that's the way the slope was pitched. This makes learning very difficult. We finally headed to the Sugar Slope and that's when things got fun for them because the slope is perfectly level from side to side.

The parking situation is terrible. It is so far to walk to the lodge with all your equipment and you can't drop off at the lodge-you have to go down to parking! Also, their ski rental requires you watch a video before renting which slows down the amount of people going through the rental lines-kind of like Disney, but once you get to the individual stations, it takes forever and don't think about exchanging anything for a different size because you have to wait in line all over again so they can scan your new equipment. The gondola wasn't working so only one lift was running which leads to only a few runs with tons of people waiting. Make sure the gondola is running or you are screwed. The lodge is gorgeous but there is minimal seating and like a cruise, the people that are in the know grab their tables and leave their stuff so when you come in to eat, there's no seating.

I had a great time at Mountain Creek! My advice would be to get there when it first opens or later in the day. There were a lot of long lines for rentals and tickets around 9-11 in the morning. It was pretty empty at night so that would be a good time to go. Also, everyone who worked there was super friendly and helpful. It was my first time there so I had a lot of questions. The pizza at Schuss was very tasty. It was a little bit overpriced but not too crazy. I can't wait to go back! Especially with my discounted lift tickets from liftopia!

Ordered tickets online the day before. Got to the mountain a half hour before it opened. Parked close and short walk over main road to guest services. We went with friends that rented skis and ordered them the day before. They had there stuff in hand within 10 mins. If you bring along a non skiing parent have them save some seats in the dining area. Like all ski lodges it gets packed at lunchtime. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Take a few runs using the triple lift at Vernon peak. No line and you get to sit a few minutes while enjoying the view. Can't wait to go back.

NEVER GOING BACK!!!!!! HORRIBLE PROCEDURES!!!!!! RENTAL TAKES 2.5 HOURS FROM START TO FINISH INCLUDING VIDEOS TO WATCH SLOWER THAN SLOW WORKERS IN THE LODGE PARKING NEEDS TO BE IMPROVED. TWO HANDICAP SPOTS FOR AN ENTIRE MOUNTAIN. THEY NEED MORE SIGNS SO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR ALOUD TO DRIVE. THE PARKING IS FAR AWAY, YOU HAVE TO TAKE A SHUTTLE FROM YOUR CAR TO THE LODGE. NOT ENOUGH PLACES TO LOCK YOUR EQUIPMENT. HARDLY ANY STAFF ON THE TRAILS ONLY GOOD THING TO SAY ABOUT THE MOUNTAIN IS THAT IT WAS 45 MINS FROM HOME. I WILL TRAVEL ANYWHERE ELSE TO NOT GO THERE.

Liftopia is completely awesome because the what the mountain was charging for the day pass is absurd. The day we went was pretty empty for a sunday but i believe i can thank the thin coverage for that. Snow wasnt that bad. And i didnt realize but they have a GREAT lodge now! Just in case you bring a few friends that can't ride your level or need a break. Nice little bar upstairs and a cute firepits to chill and drink around outside the north lodge. IF YOU ARE A NOOB - watch out! the bunny hill at north peak has drastically been reduced. Half of it is set up for the kids and the other half you have to share with grown ups and their instructors. Which becomes a bit challenging. So be careful if you do make your way up the lift.

1 It is crowded. 2 Not much trails. 3 Far walk from parking lot to lift unless paying expensive parking fee, shuttle bus or loading area is on the other side of the road, tough for skiers. 4 Some section are too flat or even go back up hill, u see snowboarders walking skiers use their poles all the time. 5 Skiers hate gondola lift especially when it is short. But it is close to NYC and open at night.

Take it for what it is... New Jersey Skiing. This place is 45 minutes from my house and while its not "proper big mountain skiing" (that's for vacation time), its most certainly good to get away for a few hours after work. hell i just got a pass thru next year so i can take 2 hour sessions without feeling like im wasting money on lift tickets. We'll probably never go back to Mountain Creek. To save time, we purchased lift tix on liftopia which was the only good thing that happened. Firstly, parking is a disaster and unorganized. Even if the lot says full on the highway, you can still park because there are constantly people leaving, but no one bothers to change that sign all day long. Second, rental line was very long for rentals that we waited 25 minutes before my friend went to the front to ask for the rental form. of which we were told "there are no poles left if you plan to ski". Why on earth didn't the 2 MountainCreek workers at the entrance of the line not make an announcement, let alone anyone else that works at the rental area??? This was such a waste of time for people to stand on line and not have the full set of ski equipment when they get to the front! We drove to the ski shop 4 miles down, which wound up being much cheaper than the ski resort. Lastly, and this just about made us want to go back home and cut our losses with the paid for ski lifts, but how do you have lockers in the food court, but not have any token machines right by the lockers? you have to walk to the rental tent and come back and not only that, the lockers don't even lock! Complete disaster of a resort. We will never go back.

You have to find a way to entertain yourself if you are advanced. Whether you dance while skiing or do jump (I did both) you have to occupy yourself on this intermediate resort. .P.S. The waffles on the top of the mountain are good.

If you're an intermediate or above, you'll get bored REAL quick. I take my daughter who is 6 and she loves it, so we have a good time. However the mountain gets CROWDED quickly and the trails get congested in the afternoon when they start selling night passes. She skis for free but when she turns 7, I'll be looking to a mountain with more options to justify the cost. Liftopia certainly makes going there a lot easier.

1. IMPORTANT: Remember to bring your print out and take it to Guest Services which is in on the other side of the road from the actual ski resort. This is definitely confusing for 1st timers to Mountain Creek like me. 2. Liftopia was great. Don't know why more people don't do this. 3. The day we went, the conditions were pretty icy and it was the day of the Superbowl. Not packed but still had to ride around people on the slopes. 4. The parking situation is not good. Walking back to my car in my boots after snowboarding all day was not fun; it was late enough in the day that the shuttle service had stopped.

great deal from liftopia plus its a major ski resort closest to the city. Get your park passes online before going to the slopes it will save you some time. There is a long line getting the park pass just to get to the south peak. You will be asked 6 common sense questions. Answer it the best you can. Because of its proximity to urban areas Mountain Creek can be crowded. South peak is awesome cant wait for the trail going back to the North open. its a pain riding the shuttle

Absolutely absurd that you can't ride into South Peak (terrain park) w/out a park pass. I love South Peak but my friends are all newbies. Couldn't even ride Southern Sojourn to South Peak & take the 2-person lift back to Granite. Should be able to ride the whole mountain for the prices they charge.

Not sure gown missed it but this mountain is great for anyone who rides terai. Parks there is a whole peak that is devoted to terrain park. I am still kind of new to boarding so it was also easy to avoid the terrain parks. Only downside I saw to this mountain was the lack of diamonds without moguls that was a bit annoying butthe blue trails were great. I also am not a fan of the gondola style lift I found my legs go tired quicker bc of the lack of rest you get from a classic chair. Overall I recommend this place to everyone it was a blast.

The mountain is solid enough. I went on a weekday morning so crowds were not a problem, but I hear weekends can be a mess. The mountain is good for a beginner or intermediate but not beyond. The black diamonds would be blues on any mountain in Vermont or Upstate NY. There are two lifts up the main mountain, a gondola that is fast but you have to stand, and a triple chair that is beyond slow. I never hit the South Peak so I can't speak for the terrain parks.

Mountain Creek is a small mountain which is perfect for beginner and intermediate skiers, if your expecting anything else you will be sorely disappointed. I skied this mountain a long time ago when I first starting skiing and it was perfect, short runs and short lines, however now the lines are a bit longer now. My tip is when it gets crowded in the north end move to Granite, very little lines. If you go to the south end be prepared to take a bus back to the north end since currently there is not trail or lift to get you back to the north end.

The staff was nice enough, and I had no problems at Customer Service getting my lift ticket. Be prepared to walk a piece from your car to the mountain; they really should get a shuttle system. It had snowed the night before, so conditions on the mountain (ahem) were great until about noon when it got really crowded. If you don't mind waiting in long lines and taking off your skis each time you go up the mountain (standing gondola is your only option)this is the place for you. It's not Colorado, but it's good enough.

It is a small mountain, gets crowded on weekends and the runs are short. It is good to go only if you get discount lift tickets. We got good deal on liftopia.com for last Tuesday. They have 9am-9pm skiing. The mountain is small and easy. I usually go on blue trails when skiing in Vermont, at Mountain Creek I went on black diamond. There was one annoying thing though - the food court was all covered with notes that only food purchased from their cafeteria could be consumed there. First provide healthy organic choices, only then post such requirements.

Preface: Our day of skiing, a Monday with good conditions, was enjoyable enough. That said, I could go on and on about how Mountain Creek falls down every step of the way. Instead, I'll focus on one serious problem - their main lift. Gondolas at other ski areas are used to comfortably transport skiers and riders up and down the mountain at high speed while shielded from the elements. The Cabriolet, rather, offers no protection from the elements; it has no seats, providing no rest; it requires passengers to remove their equipment, hold it for the duration of the ride, and try to navigate onto and away from the lift areas without falling. Compared to other gondolas, with indoor loading and unloading areas, boarding and disembarking the Cabriolet is downright dangerous. Passengers quickly tire of the constant removal of equipment; the time required to ride the lift and ski back down to the loading area takes only about five minutes. Don't bet on using other lifts, as there is only one other full-length lift open on weekdays - the Granite Peak Quad - which serves limited terrain.

It is what it is. Completely geared towards snow boarders which draws a rough crowd so that stinks.I am not ripping on all snow boarders just the ones that suck and come from NYC/suburbs.More concerned about sitting on the hill than actually doing something like go down it. The cabriolet gondola on a hill hardly bigger than 3 football fields is absurd. They should just have a six person lift like the other Intrawest resorts instead of the gonodola. Also parking situation is pretty lame. That said conditions were great and it is close.

Be patient. As a beginner, I had a great time and really enjoyed my day at the resort. Even on a busy day there are lots of slow periods. I'd recommend avoiding the gondola and taking the triple to the top for the upper and lower horizon run.

Buy a Liftopia ticket and ski 9a - 2p on a weekday and it is worth it for what it is; mediocre skiing on a tiny bump to stay in shape for trips to better mountains. Come after 2p or on a weekend and plan 45 min in each lift line, people cutting each other off and fighting in line, 5 min on the lift, 2 min top to bottom - unless cut off by a snowboarder - and repeat. Don't let the Intrawest name fool you. It's New Jersey, not the Rockies...

I've skied places where the only lift was a T-bar, and this was by far my worst experience. Do not go to this mountain. It is a polished turd - few, no variety of difficulty, and you have to take the shuttle-bus between lifts. The shuttle bus does not even have external ski racks, so those of you with longer skis can barely fit. The idiot lift attendants allow people to cut in front of eachother, and on occasion did not let me board because of my "broken" bindings. They're telemark skis, Einstein. They're supposed to do that.

Get there EARLY! I've been skiing this mountain for 40 years because it is so close to home. If you get there at 8, the ticket lines are not bad and Gondola is not super crowded yet. Take 2 runs and head over to Granite. Once it crowds up there, come back to North and stay left of the Gondola and ski down to triple chair. Eat lunch at 11:30. Did I mention get there Early?

I don't mean to be sour grapes, but there is no redeeming quality about this place. Terribly boring trails, masses of clueless young dangerous snowboarders(I board to and I have no problem with snowboarders. I have a problem with morons, and there are plenty), bad parking, slow lifts. This was my first time back in over ten years. I would not ski there again even if paid to do so. I ski vt, co, pa, and I never thought I would say that camelback or any other pocono resort shames this place, but they do. Mountain creek is a waste of time and money.

Strangest mountain ever. No lodge at Vernon, just very large circus-like tents (windows, doors and all). Went on a Thursday and was surprised that it was as crowded as it was. Only one major lift was operating (a stand up open gondola for 7????). As others have said, runs are short, not very challenging. Getting liftopia tickets at guest services is a clunky process. If you get there before the lifts open, they may not have your information.

I was there on Dec 30, 2010 at 11 am. Only south base parking lot was open, and the only way to get to get to Vernon base was on a shuttle bus. There were only two buses for 200 eager skiers! (none equipped for ski transportation). I waited almost TWO HOURS! what a waste of a nice and sunny day... after all that wait, the mountain was a disappointment. Rather small, very few lifts go to the top (4 or 5), runs are short or at the beginner level. The so-called-advanced trails were really intermediate, and quite a few of them were closed. I skid two other resorts owned by the same company (Intrawest): Whistler-Blackomb and Mt. Tremblant; knowing that Mt Creek is much smaller, I expected a better organization of transportation, more lifts, and more (even short) advanced runs. ---- Conclusion: unless one lives close to this resort, I would not recommended it - there are several better options in PA (within similar driving distance if one lives in NJ).

I had a great time taking my girlfriend to this mountain. It was small and easy enough for her to get comfortable on the board, but fun enough to where even i had a good time.

Good complex, nice appartments right next to the slopes makes it easy to head out for a couple of hours, take a break and then go back out. Saturday conditions were good, too many people though and dangerous to be a beginner. Thought that i was going to take out a snowboarder a couple of times, they were sitting everywhere i didnt want them to be.

I went on Sunday, great time. Weather was a little iffy which meant no lines and decent coverage on all the runs. Great time.

Getting discounted ticket on Liftopia was great - had no problems - got my carload to drop me off at Guest Services. I got my lift ticket while they parked and we met at the lift - worked out great. Was there on New Years Day and was it HOT out - felt like spring conditions. Kept peeling off the layers. Even saw a cuple in shorts! the lines were not long at all - we got there real early - 8:30 I was getting my lift ticket and rentals and there was NO wait. If the line started to back up at the lift just hit the singles line and no wait at all and never had to go up alone - always at least one other from my party got on with me. When we heard there was no way back from South peak except for the shuttle we just made those the last few runs of the day and then the shuttle dropped us back at our car, which was nice. My biggest tip is teach them young not to sit in the middle of the trail if they fall - to get up right away and move to the side and wait for thier friends - so many kids had no idea the etiquete of the mountain and looked at you like you were crazy when you tried to explain it to them. It could save a life!

Was there at the beginning of a holiday weekend(12/30) to discover that the entirety of the tri-state area was joining me. Way too many people. They even ran out of rentals, leaving my friend stranded at the bar all day. By midday, they had closed off the path to south peak, forcing my group to take the shuttle. Also, gondola broke down for about 20 minutes at one point. Aside from all that, trails were solid.

Went on Thursday. Way too crowded. Bad service. Reckless snowboarders all over. Granite lift broke down and no shuttle so we had to walk back. Will never go back again.

As there yesterday and waited in line to get my lift ticket for over 40 minutes. It W's especially annoying because we waited around 10 minutes at the ticketing Booth After purchasing the tickets online. The slopes were great albeit a couple of icy patches

Went XMas Day and the only lift open was the standing Gondola. You're skiing all day and standing on every trip to the summit. I woke the following day with my knee swollen up like a balloon from the stress and my calves ached. Even my 11yr old daughter complained about her calves aching. I never appreciated sitting on a chair lift more than I have this past trip. From that experience combined with the awkward small cafeteria/changing area this will not be my local mountain of choice to ski at.

A wee bit icy. After the mini blizzard we had in NJ though Im sure there will be fresh powder soon. There wasnt many lifts open yet either, a bit weird but I also went on Christmas so maybe lack of attendants.

You don't need to pick up lift tix at Guest Services. They are incredibly slow and on Xmas day it was an awful experience. The mountain has good terrain for newer skiers. If you go to the South Peak, the only way back is via a shuttle.

Get there early because the line at customer service takes forever with people picking up seasons passes. The mountain has one of the worst customer service of any mountain i have been to. They need to fix that.

Not great for skiers, and they only accept Liftopia at Guest Services. A hassle to get around on shuttles between mountains and the skier to snowboarder ratio makes skiing unpleasant.

I personally like it because i am a snowboarder and it has a great place for snowboarding, but the lines can get long as hell, so try taking the vernon triple vs the cab

The mountain is only 25 minutes away from my house, so I ski almost every day. I love going there with friends. On December 18, 2010, I put my 2 and 1/2 year old son for the first time on skis there. I hope he loves it as much as I do.

I went in the beginning of the season and it wasnt the best trip in my opinion. Am spoiled by mountains i visit in the winter, such as Gore, Whiteface, ect. The trails were interesting, the blues that were open were total ice rocks. I think there was only about 6 trails open ad only 3 of them had good snow. There was snowmaking everywhere. I will return when it gets later in the season to see how it improves
