Lookout Pass is the original Idaho ski area having documented skiing and a home made rope tow in 1935. The local ski pioneers chose Lookout Pass because of the abundant snowfall and excellent snow quality which they could access by jumping on the Northern Pacific railcars as they proceeded east from the mining towns of Wallace and Mullan, Idaho. ... These ski adventurers would hop off the railcars at the summit and utilize a highway storage shed as a warming hut that they nicknamed “Buzzards Roost”.

Lookout Pass has operated every winter season since 1935 and has a reputation for legendary powder, earliest openings, and longest season in the region. The number that really matters is an average snowfall of 400" of light Northern Rockies snow. The region's “Favorite Family Ski Area” has recently received a major expansion approval and has initiated the first three phases of a five phase Master Development Plan.

Lookout’s original historic base lodge is the 2nd oldest ski lodge in the northwest. The cedar interior offers delightful warmth reminiscent of vintage lodges of the 1940’s. Lookout Pass also straddles the Idaho/Montana state line which means you can ski in two states off various runs!

They prefer printed tickets. Cell reception is not always good. We printed our ticket so everything went well. Very nice staff. Not crowded so it was a great day.

I skied Lookout Pass last Saturday and I was throughly impressed. It skied way bigger than the posted vertical and acerage. I've driven past it numerous times over the years and I wish I skied it earlier. Great terrain with different exposures, Great service from ticket office to the lifties. Super nice lockers for locals and great bar with many TV's for apres football game viewing. And get this- free ski school for kids. Take it from a season pass holder at Whistler & Stevens...Ski Look Out Pass soon cause you won't be sorry! Seattleites driving to Big Sky... Hit this place on the way its about at the half way point.
