Durango Mountain Reviews & Tips (42)

I did a Liftopia Durango deal in 2012 and everything worked just the way it was supposed to. The conditions were perfect. Not only did we get a foot of fresh snow, but they opened chair 8 for the first time that season. That meant a foot of fresh on unskied base.

My husband and I love Durango and come at least a couple of weekends every season. We usually buy 4-pack lift tickets, but were out of town and missed the sale. This was the first time I'd ever used or even heard of Liftopia and it was GREAT! Good discounts and easy to use. This time we got 15" of heavy, wet snow (what can I say - I'm spoiled by the usual sunshine & Rocky Mtn powder) and I was struggling. Took a private lesson from Dave Lincoln - awesome! I highly recommend him for adult private lessons ... gave me great tips and my confidence back; I was a noticeably improved skier after 2 hours.

Returned back to Wisconsin after 6 straight days fo skiing Purgatory (Jan. 26 thru 31st). Each day brought out different snow skiing conditions. From having bare spots on the mountain on Jan 26 to seeing 39" inches of snow over the next 48 hours made for a variety of ski conditions during those days. But having groomed cruising runs (on tired legs) the last 2 days made a nice end to a special week. I need to mention being a bit disappointed in the service at Dante's and lack of maintenace of slippery snow filled stairs throughout DMR. Falling down the steps carrying 2 sets of skies and seeing a DMR worker walk buy was confusing but I survived.

If not famliar with the mountain and you are boarder, beware of the flat areas! Got stuck on many of those runs.

First time to use Liftopia. Durango Mountain Resort lift tickets were $75 each, bought a 3 day pass from Liftopia for $55 per day. Smooth pick up at will call. Will always check Liftopia when planning a ski trip. When the closest mountain is 650 miles away, you need to look for deals! BR Howeth - Oklahoma City

Loved it! The mountain staff was much more welcoming and inviting compared to other "big ski towns" but it still has the big resort feel with out the long lift lines like everyone says! I'm still open to other places but if I was offered to go back and i would gladly accept!

Great time! No lines at all and the mountain was fun. McCormack's Maze had some nice snow and fun trees. Liftopia tickets were at will call and definitely saved us some money. Thanks!

Our trip was awesome. First off the roads to the resort were smooth, wide and well maintained from Durango to the lodge. We stayed at the Eolus Lodge withing Durango Mountain Resort on the 4th floor and each time we wanted to get on the slopes it was literally a walk downstairs across the covered parking and down 2 flights of stairs and we were on the base of the slopes. The covered / reserved parking was a plus as each time we went into town we did not have to worry about finding another parking space. The rooms were clean, yet showed a little wear on the furnishings, nothing our of the norm of a typical home. The staff there were very friendly and helpful in everyway. We skied on a Thursday, Friday & Saturday during Presidents Weekend - Feb 16 - 18 and it was great. The crowds came in on Saturday and Sunday, but not too bad.... The slopes had plenty of variety and at some times we were the only ones on the trails up top. There were alot of snowboarders, but we played it smart and watched what was going on and there were not issues with anyone there. All in all this was much better than my own experiences in New Mexico and I can't wait to go again. We purchased our tickets off of Liftopia and there were no problems. Actually, you don't have to use the tickets on the exact day of the date on them. Once the lift operators scan them through for that day, they are spent. So if you purchase a multiple day ticket and skip a day, you can still use it the next day. Great place and great times... Thanks.

Watch out for snowboarders. Two incidents. 1. On our way down from lift 13 to lunch on access trail, not on the slopes, not on a merge area, a snowboarder came through the trees off the bank jumping knocked my wife and daughter down. Broken ribs, head contusion. Then had the gall to blame the down hill skier on a dedicated path that they needed to watch for blind jumping snowboarders. 2. Getting onto the bottom lift a group of snow boarders, that probably needed a nap or at least a time out, started cussing and yelling that we weren't boarding the lift quick enough. If this is the behavior allowed and expected by Durango Mountain Resort I will ski elsewhere.

We just completed a fantastic 4 day weekend with our family and frineds at Durango. We stayed at the Sitzmark condo complex and had ski in/ski out accomidations. We had over a foot of fresh, dry powder and the hill is in perfect shape. The 6 person lift is great and easy for little kids to get on. The back side (lifts 3-8) offer more challenging terrain. Everybody can be happy here. There is plenty of blue, green and black for all.

Durango Mountain is certainly challenging, "my cup of tea." I'm a mogul skiier and the one day I went on Feb. 2nd '12, it was an amazing powder day. It was like skiing pillows. What I also like is that the mountain is 20 minutes from downtown Durango. It's only 5 1/2 hrs. from Colorado Springs where I live and I have two boys living there currently. The town is always buzzing with things to do!

My wife and I just took our first ski trip. We were with a group of a dozen or so experienced skiers. Ticket pickup was extremely easy. No trouble at all for any of our group. Beautiful location. Great variety of trails. But the most outstanding thing was the service we received from the DMR Staff. Every single person from shuttle drivers, lift operators, office personel... They were exceptionally helpful and kind. We had a minor issue to deal with and the staff went far beyond what they had to in order to resolve it. We will absolutely come back.

Had a great time with the family on Christmas day. It was so nice to just head to will call and pick up tickets. I just wish their were more offerings for discounts on the weekends. All in all this is a great way to get on the mountain without overspending. We couldn't afford to ski with the whole family otherwise.

Great Mountain!! Went with a group of 15 over Christmas. If you have kids, the mountain is just the right size. The trails are well marked. Can't say enough positive things about DMR.

I am looking forward to my trip to DMR in January! My last visit was in 2008. I had not skiied for quite a few years. Went to Purg, got an instructor and had a wonderful time. Took three teenage boarders. They loved it. Stayed at Tamarron. Minutes from ski area. Free bus shuttle.

Caught the second to last day of the season. We had a blast. The rollers make you want to just cruise and launch out on every run. The whole mountain has a park feeling. I would suggest avoiding the lift to the far skiers left. Its incredibly slow

Liftopia way to go for tickets - WIll Call is super easy. No crowds or waiting at Purgatory. Paul's Park off life 8 (black diamond) is the bomb, Cathedral Trees just below Dante's if great easy glade skiiing for internediates - easily missed. Lift 8 is where it's at...jjust wish they had a safety bar and leg rest. Ye Ole School house is best pizza around - 2.5 Miles south of the resort.

I have been to Durango many times and this was by far the most convenient way to go. No standing in lines - just popped my head in doors and they were waiting for me. I had five family members with me that was the first time here. Great experience!. Plan to do it again next year. Thanks Liftopia!

Father Tom had it wrong...Purgatory what a cool place... My scoop: lift 8 Sally's is the bomb, Ray's if it's groomed. lift 3 Peace, & Dead Spike if groomed. Dantes for lunch. Frontside is good too. Great snow and nice people lots of smiles. Can't beat Durango for friendly small town with microbrews, Steamworks; Conductor IPA. Cheers!

Was so easy to get the lift tickets at a great price. It snowed for 48 hrs. The snow was so heavy only a few runs were groomed. When we picked up the tickets we were also able to obtain a list of the groomed trails. That was much easier to ski on. Had a great time.

The liftopia purchase worked great. The tickets were waiting at will call by 8. At Dmr,there is a nice mix of intermediate and black runs to ski on.It is an easy hill to get to from the Midwest.Wonderful friendly people both on the hill and in town. Much easier to fly into the airport through Frontier airlines and drive up after staying in Durango. The airport is easy to travel through and has more reliable flying weather . Weeks earlier I had been to Keystone while I liked the mountain, the drive up I-70 is a hassle for a short vacation.

Just completed a trip with 14 people to DMR. Great snow on Feb 25 and 26. Mountain is set up well for groups with varying abilities. Some can ski blues and some can ski blacks and still meet up at the same lift. Had some issues with some lift tickets (our fault) and the ticketing staff helped us resolve the problems and get us on the slopes ASAP.

Been to probably 10 different ski mountains. Purg is my favorite. Have made 4 trips there. The nice thing about this place is you usually don't have to fight crowds of people. Ample services / shops / food / lodging on the mountain. Wonderful easy to ski mountain. Purg consist of ledges ending with flats at just the right places. Highly recommend this place.

Ski the mountain nonstop top to bottom. At as high a rate of speed as you are comfortable with. The mountain is a series of ledges with flats at the bottom of nearly every slope. So you can keep from getting out of control.

Family of 4 had a great time skiing in the sun 1/28 - 1/30. No lift lines, great conditions (intermediate slopes) despite the lack of new snow. Village Market, Expert Edge provided good service. Good pizza at the Italian restaurant, had dinner in town at The Olde Tymer, which was lively and fun. New Gourmet Market outside of town on the resort side sold us some nice steaks and wine. Good grilled burger at Powderhouse on the slopes. Skied Breckenridge the lat two trips, but we liked Purg better, we'll be back.

Just got back from skiing Purg on Jan. 27 & 28. Really great, as others have said! No snow for 3 weeks, but the conditions were really good overall. I, too, am thankful for the good discount offered through Liftopia! Should be snowing at Purg today!

I was really glad to get the discount from Liftopia on Wednesday 1/26/11. The area could use new snow but they did a good job keeping good coverage on the blue slopes. I saw lots of rocks on the blacks. No lift lines was great!

Just got back from Durango, Skied Thursday and Friday 1/20-1/21/11. No crowds both days. Was amazed on how Durango has changed since 4 yrs.ago when I was last up there. Purgys has improved. Nice patio. Not many lifts were operating on Thursday. Just 2 on the front and 1,(Hermosa) on the back. Was still great anyway. Thanks Liftopia!

It was great snow conditions. I was disappointed that when we had called Durango Mtn Resort they neglected to tell us of $35.00 lift tickets and I did voice a complaint. We are glad at least we did not pay full lift price Thanks to Liftopia. We live locally to this resort and feel that DMR should be more attentive to the locals who support them in many ways. Thanks for asking.

Just got back from the resort after a week there. The snow was great, but the fact that the number of people there was so small is what made it just awesome. No waiting in line at all, so much open space on all runs (of course it was off season). Blackburn and Pandemonium were awesome; the new Ambassador's Glade was also fun. Only negative: the 'cheeseburger' at Dante's was the worst 'burger' I've ever had; I basically threw away $8. McDonald's is a gourmet burger compared to that lol.

Just returned from 4 days (Jan 8-11). Conditions were excellent, with bright sun 3 of the 4 days. It was much busier on Sat-Sun. There were so few people on the slopes on Mon-Tue, that we felt like we had the trails to ourselves! Lifts 4 and 6 were not running on Mon-Tue, but that was a minor inconvenience. Take time to appreciate the awsome views as you come down the mountain. Powderhouse restaurant just below drop-offs for Lifts 1 and 2 has a good happy hour from 1:30 - 3:30. We stayed at Cascade Village about 2 miles north on 550, which runs a complimentary bus to/from the resort on the hour. This was much more convenient than parking on weekend.

Stay in town and drink at the Irish Embassy. Hang out around Lift 8 on the backside for the best advanced terrain. Also, if you enjoy some downhill, see if you can sneak onto Upper Hades while they are hosting a race. It's an awesome experience if you've never done it.
