Great place to enjoy the outdoors. If the conditions are good then the skiing is easy. Much better drive from Charlotte than the NC mts. Easy 3 hr trip, many hotel options, offers plenty for all ages. Hrs are great for full day of skiing.

Lets see here where to start? Oh yes, horribly SLOW lifts! Wow this place pitches a great tag line but once you get on the ice, sorry snow, you will understand that you just bought an all day lift ticket to ride the chair.
The 3-4 black Diamonds they have take 10 seconds to descend, the entire resort takes under a minute to ski across. If you are thinking about skiing WV do yourself a favor and go north to SnowShoe, TimberLine, Canaan, even WISP!

Winterplace is a great value for the money with the all day lift ticket. Beware if weather permits, they will blow snow and you can get blasted (frost bite) so layer up and be prepared. Great beginner ski resort with many lesson, rental, and lift packages. Good food, prices are little higher than McDonalds, but what you would expect at a ski resort. I would recommend bringing a bag with extra layers and gloves. Lockers are down stairs and only cost $1 to lock and $1 to lock again after re-opening. Great overall place to take the kids.
