Red Lodge Mountain Resort is Montana Skiing, Pure and Simple. No lift lines, no attitude, no big prices. Just great snow, great people and an authentic experience in Montana’s Rocky Mountains.

Red Lodge Mountain Resort has a long history dating back to 1960 when the ski area first opened. We are, above all, a down to earth ski area that prizes ... skiing over glitz and glamour. Originally started by a local, enthusiastic ski club, we have spent the last 50+ years growing into a resort that attracts visitors and families from all over the country.

The Mountain offers something for everyone - from beginners on Miami Beach, to intermediates skiing Lazy M (our 2 ½ mile signature run), to the experts looking for a challenge in the double black diamond chutes of Cole Creek. Our full service lessons, complete rental/repair services, gift shop, two bars, two cafeterias, and one restaurant round out our amenities that will fulfill everyone’s needs. One look at our events calendar and you’ll see we have a whole lot of fun all winter long.

Red Lodge Mountain Reviews & Tips (20)

Have skied RLM over the last 25 years. Annual trips only skied rocks once (January before late winter snows had started). Rentals are cheap so that saved my own skies 20 years ago. US Olympic team chooses RLM every late spring for the quality of the snow, by the way. Slow lifts but every year even mid week, the Cole Creek high speed quad has been open. This has not been the case for the Palisades. Cole Creek is the place to go for intermediates who want a little challenge. Spring skiing has been largely rock free for years now. However, if you wait to the last week a couple years I have encountered slush at the base by the lodge. Staff and patrons are super friendly. Lots of locals ski there meaning very friendly patrons; no jet set jerks like Big Ski and Colorado resorts. 2400 vertical feet for the same price as our 300 footers in Minnesota. Best bang for the buck in the over dozen ski resorts I've skied even without Liftopia's great prices.

Get there early for parking or on good condition weekend days you will be hiking a long ways or catching a shuttle. Take advantage of bag check/gear stow. Usually great staff and friendly operators and Bierstube is awesome. Mountain is at its best with Cole Creek and Palisades lifts open. Town of Red Lodge is awesome. Lodging options with hotel/motel, cabins, rentals etc. Pollard Hotel is in walking distance of bars, pubs, restaurants. Included with the price is great breakfast and has bands. If you don't want crowds on slopes and cheaper lodging go during the middle of the week in February and possibly catch some great powder.

Great place for the whole family. The wife and I stick to the groomers and hit a few of the shorter black diamonds when we are feeling brave. My sons head to Cole Creek and have a blast back in the trees. We have skied all over and for the money it cannot be beat. We simply love the scenery and the town of Red Lodge itself!

I ski nearby Bridger Bowl, a 16 mile trip from my house on a paved road, however my first trip to Red Lodge proved that there is great skiing elsewhere. For an intermediate skier, Red Lodge offers an abundance of long runs which means less lift time, more ski time. I've heard horror stories about the snow at Red Lodge, but this season has been a good one in that respect. I will definitely be back.

Good variety of terrain for the price. They usually get the most snow in spring however this year('13-14) they've have a great start. You can always find some powder stashed in Headwaters or the trees around Drainage/Ringers Run. If you want to lap the groomers I would suggest palisades if it's open, Lazy M is great as well, just a slow ride back back to the top via 2 lifts. The high speed quads in cole creek and palisades are your best bet for getting the most laps. Also a great place for beginners.

I bought a 2 day ticket for the wrong day so I thought I would have to eat the first day. When I got there they said there is a 3 day window to use the ticket.

Look for the Gear Check area - for $5 you can stow a LOT of gear in a plastic bin and get in and out of it all day, unlike a locker which costs 75 each time - all this because it is NO fun to walk back down to the parking lot for your lunch. AND there is a microwave, unlike in the main lodge.

Had a great day of skiing! Especially appreciated well-groomed trails and extremely friendly and courteous personnel at Red Lodge Mountain. This was my first time skiing in 4 years, and my first time at Red Lodge Mountain. This was a wonderful way to back at it. I enjoyed the intermediate runs, and look forward to working my way up to the more advanced runs. There are some shorter advanced trails on the lower half of the mountain to help me reach this goal. I took one trail from the top half of the mountain (Barriers) and struggled with it because, though it was the least difficult (as marked on the map) the deep powder was more than I was used probably would have done better on Lazy time). On top of it all, the beauty of skiing Red Lodge is astounding.

A week after a big storm we found lots of powder in the trees. The wind forced the Grizzly lift to close, but the rest of the mountain, including Palisades lift, was up and running and skiing great. I will go again next time I'm in Red Lodge!

This was our third year at RLM. We have a 5 and 7 year old who have taken private lessons for the past three years and instructors have been excellent. Ask for Richard as a private instructor he has worked withour 5 yearold for the past three years and she is now able to ski green and blue. Great hospitality and affordability.

Keep an eye on the weather and plan accordingly. My day @ RLM was limited to the bottom of the mountain due to wind. They had the upper lifts on wind hold. They finally opened the one upper lift, but only to doubles. As I was riding alone and had to stay on the rock-hard lower runs. The mountain had enough potential though that I will be back to check it out with some snow. I had first chair and the first two lift operators were great. The second guy I dealt with was not good for resort PR. Jacob was the name I believe, Tool box for short. Excited to get back in the trees with some deep snow!

Red Lodge is pretty good for the price. I'm from SoCal and we have a small resort nearby (Snow Valley) that is $20-30 more a ticket and has half the terrain, runs & altitude. So for a $50 ticket (or $41 on Liftopia), you can't go wrong. Lots of bumpy black and double blacks (too scary for me), but plenty of blues that are groomed, steep but really skiable. Lifts are a little slow, but lines were small, even on the weekend of their big Spring party. Not the most convenient... parking is a nightmare -- get there early or you are parking up to a mile away on a muddy dirt road, and it's a steep, narrow walk just to get from the chalet to the lifts. This place is rough around the edges, but for the price, it's great. My five year old son had previously gone to ski school group lessons twice in CA and couldn't even master the snowplow move. At Red Lodge, he took a private ski lesson with John, who made him 10 times better of a skier after his second run. By the end of the 1.5 hour lesson, my son was skiing by himself down the easy runs, turning and finally learned how to stop. Worth the money!!

Great trip this week... another foot of powder. lifts were slow and small scale, lifties were great- every single one! very slow on weekdays, ski all by yourself. skiing RLM was a great experience at a great price from Liftopia.

Bring your rock skis! Awesome mountain, great atmosphere, but the beartooths are a rocky place. 18 inches fell last weekend and skiing was incredible. Definitely worth a visit.

Red Lodge has an excellent snow sports school if you have people in need of a skillbuilder lesson or just getting started. Great staff for all ages. I recommend a mid-week visit to have a little more space to yourself, but there is plenty of terrain and lift capacity that it is rarely crowded. Snow was excellent the end of January and the groomers were out preparing more for the weekend which we skied in the afternoon. It is too bad the high speed quads that Red Lodge has are not located from the base, but over in the Cole Creek drainage where they are not open mid-week. You can't beat 2,400 feet of vertical with a view out across the plains either.

Spring skiing is usually best here, snow comes late in year. Do not have a lift from bottom of mountain to top, have to take 2 lifts. Nice selection of runs and terrain, staff is great, always helpful and friendly. A favorite of mine, can't wait to go again.
