Red Lodge Mountain Resort is Montana Skiing, Pure and Simple. No lift lines, no attitude, no big prices. Just great snow, great people and an authentic experience in Montana’s Rocky Mountains.
Red Lodge Mountain Resort has a long history dating back to 1960 when the ski area first opened. We are, above all, a down to earth ski area that prizes ... skiing over glitz and glamour. Originally started by a local, enthusiastic ski club, we have spent the last 50+ years growing into a resort that attracts visitors and families from all over the country.
The Mountain offers something for everyone - from beginners on Miami Beach, to intermediates skiing Lazy M (our 2 ½ mile signature run), to the experts looking for a challenge in the double black diamond chutes of Cole Creek. Our full service lessons, complete rental/repair services, gift shop, two bars, two cafeterias, and one restaurant round out our amenities that will fulfill everyone’s needs. One look at our events calendar and you’ll see we have a whole lot of fun all winter long. Read more

Red Lodge Reviews & Tips (7)
Keep an eye on the weather and plan accordingly. My day @ RLM was limited to the bottom of the mountain due to wind. They had the upper lifts on wind hold. They finally opened the one upper lift, but only to doubles. As I was riding alone and had to stay on the rock-hard lower runs. The mountain had enough potential though that I will be back to check it out with some snow. I had first chair and the first two lift operators were great. The second guy I dealt with was not good for resort PR. Jacob was the name I believe, Tool box for short. Excited to get back in the trees with some deep snow!

Red Lodge is pretty good for the price. I'm from SoCal and we have a small resort nearby (Snow Valley) that is $20-30 more a ticket and has half the terrain, runs & altitude. So for a $50 ticket (or $41 on Liftopia), you can't go wrong. Lots of bumpy black and double blacks (too scary for me), but plenty of blues that are groomed, steep but really skiable. Lifts are a little slow, but lines were small, even on the weekend of their big Spring party.
Not the most convenient... parking is a nightmare -- get there early or you are parking up to a mile away on a muddy dirt road, and it's a steep, narrow walk just to get from the chalet to the lifts. This place is rough around the edges, but for the price, it's great.
My five year old son had previously gone to ski school group lessons twice in CA and couldn't even master the snowplow move. At Red Lodge, he took a private ski lesson with John, who made him 10 times better of a skier after his second run. By the end of the 1.5 hour lesson, my son was skiing by himself down the easy runs, turning and finally learned how to stop. Worth the money!!

Great trip this week... another foot of powder. lifts were slow and small scale, lifties were great- every single one! very slow on weekdays, ski all by yourself. skiing RLM was a great experience at a great price from Liftopia.

Bring your rock skis! Awesome mountain, great atmosphere, but the beartooths are a rocky place. 18 inches fell last weekend and skiing was incredible. Definitely worth a visit.

Red Lodge has an excellent snow sports school if you have people in need of a skillbuilder lesson or just getting started. Great staff for all ages. I recommend a mid-week visit to have a little more space to yourself, but there is plenty of terrain and lift capacity that it is rarely crowded.
Snow was excellent the end of January and the groomers were out preparing more for the weekend which we skied in the afternoon. It is too bad the high speed quads that Red Lodge has are not located from the base, but over in the Cole Creek drainage where they are not open mid-week.
You can't beat 2,400 feet of vertical with a view out across the plains either.

Spring skiing is usually best here, snow comes late in year. Do not have a lift from bottom of mountain to top, have to take 2 lifts. Nice selection of runs and terrain, staff is great, always helpful and friendly. A favorite of mine, can't wait to go again.
