Ski Butternut is a small resort in Massachusetts (US) with 12 lifts, 5 of which are somewhat long chair lifts. Ski Butternut sells itself as Berkshire’s most affordable mountain, which seems to be true from Monday to Friday, where for low fee you can gain full access to all the lifts. It covers 1000 ft of vertical, which is a... fair amount for a 110-acre ski area. Ski Butternut has most of the usual amenities, such as tubing, terrain parks, childcare, skiing and snowboarding school, racing school and wifi. There does not appear to be a lot of dining choices, but both lodging and dining are fairly close to the resort. The majority of the ski area is blue squares, with green circles and black diamonds scattered consistently through the whole mountain. Ski Butternut is fairly affordable in a nice area. Read more

Reviews & Tips (8)
On weekends, use the singles line for lifts. It is efficiently managed.
To avoid crowds on weekends, stay to the right side of the mountain. The triple lift is not quick but the runs are less crowded.
It is a true family mountain and Great Barrington is a nice town. Keep your expectations reasonable and you will enjoy the day. It is a thousand foot vertical. This is not Vail.

It was a great day at Butternut. I had not been for many years. The mountain was well groomed after rain the day before and we had a great time. Very family friendly but fine for adults also.

The Adventurers all-day skiing program is a very good program. After two of these lessons, a month apart, my four year old twins are cruising down green slopes with the rest of the family! Call ahead and reserve to beat the wait!

Ski Butternut has had the best conditons of any area in New England this season. Great Snowmaking system. Incredible Grooming. My family loves the mountain. Plenty of challenge for my 3 kids (2 Teens). Easy drive, affordable, 3 quad chairlifts keeps people moving up the hill. Great race program. A real dialed in Terrain Park. Mountain is a real GEM!

This is a very family friendly resort. It's small, so the kids can ski most of the hills. If your kids are a little older and better (8+), the group lessons are great and not populated. My son and his friend took a (group) lesson on Saturday afternoon and were the only two kids in it!

First got there and saw a huge "Sports Shop" sign on the base lodge so we walked right past it thinking thats all it was. Its too bad because the second base lodge was kind of a PITA to get to. A steep uphill walk from the parking lot. Some of the lifts were also a pain to get to for the same reason. Not sure why Liftopia says this place has 12 lifts. Its pretty small and has maybe 4-5 lifts.
Ski experience itself was kind of meh. The black diamonds were pretty laughable. And I'm not a pro by any means. I guess If I lived local I'd probably go here to blow off some steam but I certainly wouldn't drive two hours again.
