Snowy Range Reviews & Tips (38)

3" new snow on 3/30/2016, still making fresh tracks at 2pm! If you live in the northern Front Range of Colorado, definitely make a trip there and enjoy some great skiing for very reasonable prices. Check out the tree skiing on the front and back lifts. Not very steep, but great exploration on my tele skis. A variety of tasty menu items to replace calories at the cafe.

Snowy Range was a great laid back place to ski. There weren't any scary steeps and there weren't many moguls, but for some reason the moguls they did have were just perfect. Medium sized and winter snow soft on the day we were there (March 5th) and we could ski them as aggressively as we wanted without them biting back unexpectedly. I would definitely ski there again.

I loved the Mountain View Hotel and Cafe.Charming cafe, gourmet breakfasts in Centennial before skiing. Coffee roasted on site and fabulous, reasonably priced waffles, omelettes, etc. The ski area has lots of tree skiing, although nothing steep. A fun place for people who are not stong skiers, and who would prefer to skip the longer drive and much higher costs of larger ski areas. (BTW, skiers aged 70 and older ski for free).

We enjoyed skiing at Snowy Range and the ease to purchase the discounted tickets was fantastic. When we are in Wyoming again, we would definitely ski here.

I've been skiing for 30 years and Snowy Range is a terrific hill. I brought by intermediate wife and my 3-year old snowboarder and we all had a great time. The runs are a little short but we got back up quickly with virtually no lift waiting whatsoever. Josh, our son's snowboarding instructor was perfect with our little guy–even extending his lesson an extra 30 minutes or so. Thrilled about that. Nice conditions. Friendly employees at every turn. It's a gem.

My husband and I had not skied in 25 years. We had a wonderful time rediscovering the joy of doing so and took our son for the 1st time as well. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and I liked that, although there were a number of people there, I didn't feel like we were being over-run. I would definitely go again!!

First time skiing in 10 years and had a ball.Even though it was a holiday week, the lift lines were short. The hills were well groomed and the lift staff was very friendly.Plan on going back soon!

Snowy Range is a great deal. Short lines on the lifts, and low prices for lift tickets & rentals make it a bargain. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We went at probably the busiest time (right after Christmas) and had no problems. If only it was open a little longer than 9-5. Some tips: Preorder your rentals, if you can, online. The lines inside the lodge are enormous in the morning. Paperwork can be done online. Same with lift tickets (ie through liftopia), although you will still have to get on a line to redeem them...this is the same line as the locker key, and ski rental purchase. Order your locker key rental for more than one day (you might have to talk them into it) to avoid having to wait in that line every morning. Ski equipment can be held by them overnight to avoid having to carry them from the parking lot (which is very close to the lodge). I however, do NOT recommend that. I'd recommend bringing them back and forth, because the line for the pickup is the same line as the one for online reservations (which involves them helping you get the right boot) and tends to be the longest line. If done right, your second and third days won't involve you being in any lines in the to locker to slope. The food is OK and, like any other resorts, highly expensive. ($5 for a slice of low quality pizza, although I think a pie is a much better deal) Other foods are equally as expensive. Lines at lunchtime are long and the cashiers aren't exactly fast (having to sign for each credit card purchase is part of the problem) Luckily, if you can plan it, you can bring a cooler and that's acceptable to them, so kudos for that. Heck, even a thermos or two for hot chocolate would be economical. We stayed in nearby Laramie, which is about 35min away, so it was a bit of a drive, but there isn't much closer to it. The drive itself was very easy. Overall, Snowy Range is great bang for the buck. You'll be hard pressed to find cheaper lift tickets anywhere. It's not a huge mountain, but for many, a mountain is a mountain, and will probably suffice for all but the most hardcore skiers. I rate it 5 stars. Will hopefully return soon when I find cheap airfare again!

Great day skiing on Saturday (3/20) until one of the lifts broke down and left me and the kids stranded on the lift for a full 45 min, then once started it proceeded to the top at 1/5th speed - spent almost a full hour on that lift and all that all but killed the final hours of the afternoon for us. The Ski Patrol folks were nice and helpful, but resort employee's didn't say a word. When I asked a gal at the main desk about it, she mentioned a 15 minute unknown breakdown, to which my 12 year old corrected her quickly - he had timed the whole event. Big letdown to an otherwise nice day for the kids.

We had an outstanding day of skiing! The slopes were well groomed and for a warm day, they held up well. The area is well protected from the wind and the folks that worked there were great. I think the lodge could have been a bit more...comfortable, but as I understand they had a fire that burned the old lodge down. So I will give them cudos for their improvisation. Rentals were easy and buying on line in advance was definitely worth it! Thank you for such a great day of skiing. This place is the best kept secret. Very affordable. Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming have a good place that is closest to go to.

Love this ski base for those just beginning! I think the runs for beginners are perfect and enough to choose from, so you do not need to worry about being run over by more experienced folks. I always recommend this location to those in Northern Colorado with young families. After bringing my younger sister who has only skied twice in her life, I feel confident that I can teach my 2.5 year old on many of the greens! This ski base allows people to work on their fundamental skills, gain confidence with their speed, and progress to more difficult runs!

I agree with low prices and short lines but it's not a place for a beginner skier. The beginner area was very steep, it had trees on the left, it had a little power station on the right that you could have ran into then it drops off a little further on the right with more trees to run into.

I skied here 1/24/2015 for the first time in 30 years. I skied here in college (UW) often. The area has doubled in size since then. The lodge is new and fresh. The green and blue runs are the busiest (but not really busy) with few skiers on the black runs. Lifts are a little slow but that should be expected with the kids/families. Staff everywhere were courteous and talkative and helpful. It hadn't snowed in a week so the snow was a little crunchy and icy in spots. I didn't stand in line anywhere all day for more than 2 or 3 minutes - not in a lift line, not in the rental line, not in the ticket line, not in the snack bar line. Had a terrific time. I will go back!

Short lines are the best! My son and I were able to make as many runs as our legs would let us. Food is pretty expensive but I did see a lot of families bringing in coolers of their own. I will go back for sure!

Excellent place for beginners. My son now thinks he is ready to go pro. Instructor (Josh) was patient and helpful. Doesn't have the panache of a Vail, but it with low prices and almost nobody else on the slope, it was a great day.

Great affordable place to take my son for a couple of days to learn to ski for his sixteenth birthday. Glad the lodge had free Wifi to make wifi phone calls on my smart phone since none of the major phone carriers have coverage up there. Used the Wifi to email my wife pictures of her son on the slopes. Lunch was affordable and the lodge comfortable. Enjoyed the fresh six inches of powder and got to enjoy some of the moguls on the blue slopes after my son was tuckered out for the day. I'm thinking I'll take up the whole family next year!

Although the weather was dicey driving up 287 from FoCo-- wind gusts, blowing snow, ground storms, when we got to Snowy Range Ski resort, the weather was great. We had a great day of skiing-- not much wind, a little snow but hardly anyone there and no waiting for the lifts.

The snow here is awesome. I love the price. The food is great and everyone can find something that would fit their appetite. I have gone during the week the past two years and it has never been crowded. The only downfall is the people who work in the rental area aren't the friendliest of people. But the people in the cafe and the ski patrol guys I talked to are great people. There is a reason I have gone back here multiple times.. Its awesome.

Loved my first trip to Snowy Range. Skied Feb 13, 14, 2014. Great deals from Liftopia. New beautiful lodge. Friendly staff. Need more trail signs; lots of places where trails divide and there were no signs. Not fun for beginner or intermediate to end up on run that is too difficult because trail is not marked. Also there was one sign that was so faded that "Blackfoot" could not be read except from looking at it from an angle right beside it. And Blackfoot should be labeled as a walking trail since you have to repaint the sign anyway!

Great lodge with plenty of room! Nice bar. Props to Mike the bar tender!! Fantastic prices. It is a smaller mountain so you will spend more time on the lifts but no lines. Don't ride the greens on a board, unless you can handle an easy black...they are terribly flat in areas and run horizontal. You have to really keep up your speed or you spend your time in the trees. Beginners can't keep up their speed we'll enough and are not ready for the trees. I think they should make their horizontal greens "blues". Some of the blues are more like greens and a couple blacks are more like blues. Loved the terrain park. Will def. go back. For the price it is a 5 out of 5. 3 out of 5 overall.

If you've been skiing for more than 20 years, you may remember when going up to the slopes for a day was actually a pleasant experience. It still is at Snowy Range. The drive up to Snowy Range Ski Area from Northern Colorado is an easy 2 hour drive with no traffic jams. Even on the busiest of days, every run is ski-up-ski-on. Snowy Range doesn't even have queues at their lifts, the lines don't get long enough. Snowy Range recently upgraded their base area with a very spacious lodge. Even if you bring your own lunch, there is enough room for you in the dining area too.

We had an AWESOME time at Snowy Range. We were there January 4-5. Saturday was powdery and perfect, Sunday was much colder and a bit icy. I am naturally a skier but have been working on snowboarding and my husband is an advanced snowboarder. There was plenty for both of us to enjoy. Not packed, great runs, pretty much ideal for a quick weekend getaway. We will definitely bring our family back again!

I went with beginner skiers and snowboarders, and it was perfect for all of us. I definitely will continue to go to Snowy Range when my daughter is old enough to learn to ski. This is an excellent family place - lift tickets for a great price!!! We packed our lunch (crockpot of soup with sandwiches), which saved us even more on our trip! No line for the lifts. Some of the best snow (coming from a Colorado resident), which I was pleasantly surprised by. I will say I thought some of the blue runs were more of a green level, and the blacks more of a challenging blue level - but all the better for those just starting out!

Did not make it second day to the lifts, so a two day ticket was an expensive one day. It was snowing heavily and cars were sliding all over the place. Keeping chains in the car is a good idea as the conditions went from sunny in Centennial to impassable few miles up the mountain. It is a good intermediate ski resort. Especially for kids. Lifts are slow and old. They slow them a lot for kids and new skiers who have trouble loading and unloading. Great place to teach kids. Not too bad for intermediate skier. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Because of its small size walking distance is short from the car to the lift.

We took our whole family just after the holidays and had a great time! The people who run Snowy Range, from the ticket desk to the rentals to the awesome ski school instructors for the kids were AMAZING and made our trip smooth, fun and enjoyable! Renting and purchasing lift tickets through Liftopia meant that our equipment was ready to go when we got there, and within a short time, we were all enjoying the slopes! Not the long runs or the fast lifts of Colorado, but an incredible place to take families, especially with their quality ski and snowboard instructors!

Good family and intermediate ski area. As an advanced skiier the lifts were old and slow. The slopes and views did not compare to Summit County (but it was also half the price). I took my grandson and family. For a beginner area you cannot beat the price, slopes and lack of crowds. The cafeteria was not very crowded and food reasonably priced. This will be a great area to teach my grandson to ski and I will go back many times.

First time at snowy range yesterday (12/26). Took my 2 kids 7 & 9 and skied mostly blues and a couple blacks. Nice runs, great snow very low traffic. Same distance from Ft. Collins as to Loveland, but my kids said they preferred snowy range. Saved a couple bucks and had several runs all to ourselves. Would definitely go again!

Really enjoy Snowy Range. Definitely family friendly. Terrain for all skill levels, even advanced. Virtually no lift lines, so spend much more time skiing than waiting in line! Lifts and lodge are in great condition, and the staff are friendly. Snowboarders enjoy the dedicated area with all the doodads that they like (rails etc.).
