Gore Mountain Reviews & Tips (33)

Gore Mountain blew me away. Such a great resort and the people there were so friendly and hospitable. My tip is, if you need a reasonable room that is clean and good service, stay at the Downtowner in Saratoga. It is about an hour drive from Gore Mt.

Took the trip to ski 2 days, but only ended up with one, as the conditions the 2nd day were unfavorable. Any staff member we dealt with was personable and professional. We had a great time and hope to be back. Was grateful to the review to bring the COPY of the ticket with us, because cell service is very limited.

Go early and go all the way up! The runs off the Summit are all great - and there is something for everyone (my 8 year old totally loved Hawkeye!) Just like Whiteface you want to go early before the runs get skied out unless it's a powder day. More easily accessible glades than Whiteface! Awesome glade runs and so many you won't get bored. We skied during President's week here, which means vacation time for surrounding states too, but never encountered lift lines or too many crowded spots on the hill. Oh yea, and Rumor is definitely a black double diamond, but very fun if you know what you are doing.

Awesome day yesterday Sunday 3/29/15 - not a cloud to be seen. Great conditions. It didn't get sticky until after lunch. A fun quick trail Fairview (usually skiied off early) was delightful even for my cautious approach. Twister and Showcase were perfect.

Perfect conditions, I ski with my wife for 3 days (FRI, SAT, SUN) my wife used mostly gondola and even on Saturday we avoided lines by just using a lane for singles. I used Straight Brook Quad to do my black runs and then traverse back to Bear mountain if needed. Some black and blue trails got some flat section before you actually get to the slope, so I avoided some of these. All trails are perfect, great mountain in general! We didn't go to Burnt Ridge, Echo was closed for racing. I would like to go again for sure. If you want to take a break from green/blue runs use Straight Brook Quad it will give you access to pure black or double black diamond trails without any traverse or flat section just pure steep trails, visit Rumor and Lies for sure, Rumor was closed for me so I only ski on Lies.

Great Mountain with varied terrain for everyone. As steep and nasty as you want it! And if you like true trail cruising, this is the place. I would have to say even the green runs are somewhat challenging! I am a tele skier and nothing in MI could prepare me for the long runs chasing my buddies on Alpine Boards. The trail map is very deceiving, and you are best served by studying beforehand. Also, know where you are going prior to heading down the hill. You can end up miles from where you want to be if you are not paying attention. By day 3, my legs were smoked and I had to back off. Although Gore had not received much natural snow prior to our visit, there were plenty of un tracked lines through the woods, and the groomers held up for most of the day. Saturday and Sunday were crowded with the sunshine, but Gore distributes skiers and riders quite well throughout the area. Basically no lift lines, only the Gondola at the base. Having skied Killington, Smugglers Notch, Jay Peak and Okemo, I must say this is my new favorite of the East. And yes, will definitely make the drive again! Make sure to stop in the Saddle Lodge at mid mountain, and Trappers at the base. Two of the best true ski lodges I have ever been in. Their chili is the best!!

Fun Mountain, lots of varied terrain for all levels. My tip is for apre ski. Basil and Wicks restaurant is OUTSTANDING for a mid to upper priced meal, delicious. The restaurant at the Black Mountain lodge has the one of the BEST philly cheesesteaks outside of philly and the wings 'ask for crispy style' are pretty darn good too.

Went for superbowl sunday weekend. It was perfect. First day was really groomed and just beautiful warm-ish skiing. Second day it snowed over night, we were skiing in 8 plus inches of awesome powder. We love Gore, it is the perfect sized resort, nice conditions, gondala, challenging double black diamonds with nice open blue squares. We have returned many times and love it! After the day skiing, there are fun pubs, dining and bars in the quaint town, but nothing crazy.

Skied Sat. Dec 20th 2014. Crowds were thin. Walked right up to the gondola. That's not happened when we've been there previously. Beautiful blue sky, no wind. Trails conditions were pretty good considering it's still early in the season. 5 of us skied-the four young adults are all advanced. We had a great day. Took my skies to be waxed and sharpened so was glad to get that done as well. I liked being able to buy the tickets in advance getting a little discount. We love Gore and will be back later in the season.

Gore gets to be quite boring after a while. Maybe it's time to have Andrew Cuomo go public and tell us more big lies, like how he'll not only be able to predict the snow better than the national weather service, but how he'll be able to command the heavens above and make it snow. After a while you need to get back to some challenging and fun ski resorts like Stowe in VT, both on the slopes and afterwards.

Went up on President's day and found that most of the mountain was very icy. Lines were very short for a holiday and was able to get in over 20 runs. Great place to ski

Great day on Mon. 1/28, mild snowfall added to already good conditions. Food is OK, not too overpriced. The Super 8 in Warrensburg is a good place to stay ~25 mins. from the mountain just off Northway exit 23. Clean, Friendly for $59- double room incl. bfast.

A surprisingly big ski area for the East Coast. Decent snow even in a very bad snow year. Very friendly people. Wish they would have had more lifts and areas of the mountain open weekdays. Nice black runs. Not much terrain for beginners the weekdays I was there, though many more green trails had been home the weekend prior.

Not much of a ski town environment but a great mountain either way. If you are going for the day and are interested in the glades make sure to check and see if they are open - when I was there almost all of them were closed and did not find any open until going up to the rumor/lies area

To Barthalemu- Be happy you're a skier at Gore. Snowboarders beware, SKI patrol doesn't care much for us "hoodlum" boarders powder hunting. Fun mountain, but why is everyone so mean?? Relax you old farts, this isn't my first tree run... My advice, find some colorful freestyle skiers and follow their tracks off trail, you'll be in the clear. have fun!

Pay attention to the traverses it's a pain especially for snow boarders. I felt like I did more walking than riding. Stay on the steep stuff.

We lucked out with a perfect day of skiing. Went on a Friday so it was not too busy and never had to wait in line. Tried as many trails as we could, except for moguls. Sun was shining, powder was soft. Great day!

Not quite as many trails and lifts as the bigger Whiteface but then again it's a closer drive. Well groomed and friendly service. They did have long trails for all levels but no really fast lifts. Even the Gondola seemed a little pokey. Overall a very nice option.
