Cannon Mountain Reviews & Tips (7)

Many people will shy away from Cannon during a snow storm. It is cold. It is windy. The road through the pass can be really sketchy driving. If you can overcome the obstacles and persevere the cold you will be rewarded with the best skiing east of the Rockies. Stick to the top of the mountain doing laps in the upper tree runs like "Go Green" & "Global Warming" glades. These are serious New England tree runs, tight steep and gnarly. Some of the best turns I've made and the difficulty rivals part of Squaw. (Just replace rock with trees) Then there's Mittersill. This is a lift accessible side-country playground where you could send a whole season exploring. As in all real adventures, BE PREPARED TO DAMAGE EQUIPMENT if you're gonna go into the trees.

Yes, the weather can be challenging at Cannon, but with three sides to the mountain -- the top, the front five, Mittersill -- you can find an area that is protected from the wind. Great natural snow. Lots of challenging trails. The best NH has to offer.

Cannon is a big mountain with a big heart. It has a reputation for being windy, cold and for experts. It has some windy and cold days, this is skiing after all. The snow making has been upgraded and the conditions last year were wonderful for all levels.Views are fantastic! Easy access off 93. Near the homey little towns of Franconia and Bethlehem.

Yesterday @ Cannon was awesome - no lines - blue sky - packed powder - great conditions - the best March NE skiing ever - believe it or not no ice! Keep the Mt cold for a couple of weeks - plan on a few more day trips.

Went to cannon during March break. The snow conditions where terrible but the front 5 is epic and the trails there would be awesome if they had good conditions. Short lift lines, no crowd.

I took my family here last week. It's a great mountain because it has something for everyone. My wife and son are great skiiers and they headed off to the top. My daughter and are I are newer and spent the day at the learning hills at the bottom. Perfect to learn to ski on. All in all a really good experience.

Cannon is state owned and low key, but the mountain offers some of the best terrain in NH. Upper Cannon trail is one of the best serpentine cut trail in the area, in that you can take the big S turns to keep it slow or blast down the inside corners. The front three at the bottom (Zoomer, Paulie's Folly, Avalanche) will give most skiers the thrills they seek. Cannon's weather is legendary. It can be cold and windy and the trails can be icy. There have been many days where it was hard to leave the tram house because the wind pushed you back in. But - Cannon has its own snow belt. It will get twice the storm of nearby Loon Mountain. If there is fresh powder, stay away from Cannon! Because I don't want you stealing my freshies :-)
