Crotched Mountain Reviews & Tips (25)

I bring my 5 year old daughter here to learn how to ski, and to expose her to an actual ski culture. There are no expensive townhouses, or fancy amenities. There are a lot of kids running gates. There are a lot of kids throwing tricks in the parks. There's a base lodge with plenty of tables, and more than enough space to stow coolers and lunch bags (imagine that). This has become my favorite southern NH or VT mountain, and I've barely gotten off the green circles.

When Crotched has natural snow they have some of the best tree skiing in New England. Most of the tree runs are not on the trail map but pretty easy to find.

I echo all reviews --great family mountain, good trails. Lifts are perfect for children learning, as they are low enough to ground for little one to climb on themselves. Only complaint is that youth tend to cut in the quad lift line.

I am from Wilmington De and my home Mt is Blue Mt out side of Allentown. This is one great place to Ski. It is about the size of north east Ski Areas. The gromming was as good as it gets. The base lodge leaves a bite to be desired, it looks out of place for a Ski Lodge. I went out of my way to ski this Mt but I will be back

No crowds last Saturday, Great snow. Well groomed. Buying through Liftopia was a big savings for my family. Totally awesome mountain.

Was there all day on Sunday 2/22 and it was great. First time on Crotched; nice little mountain with great snow, some powder (and a little ice), and fun glades runs for the more adventurous. Not many people there so we got a ton of runs in. 9/10 would ride again.

The advanced slopes were kind of icy with a tad of fresh snow on top, no one was there. But they have nice easier trails for newer skiers, and a long very easy slope for my 5 year old to learn on. Overall very good :) Very short wait too, almost none.

Great family mountain. Plenty of beginner/ intermediate terrain. Lifts are very quick. Lodge is comfortable and reasonable. Entertainment on Saturday was a great touch. Expert trails are like a high blue elsewhere but skiable and not crowded

Good alternative to other mountains close to Boston (Gunstock specifically). Need better deals on the lift tickets to make this a better deal. Overall happy with the mountain, but discount on lift should be closer to 40% not 15%

Well groomed, fast quad lift, friendly staff. Perfect for an older heavier skier like me, but my son had fun too on steeper trails. Not a huge mountain. Absolutely will return. Watch out for 2 bad stretches of road when coming from Manchester area.......very bumpy.

Got a great deal on liftopia but arrived to see parking lot packed (week day, not school vacation). The regional races were being held that day! However, the kids were almost exclusively on the race trail, the lifts still had no wait and you can go to the pub to escape the teenage mob. Crotched has some nice trails. The cap of the mountain is a bit steep for beginners but after that, many trails are quite tame. One issue is that a lot of trails crisscross each other, even at the top, so you have to look up quite a lot or cross a wide trail to get back to a tame one. Snow was great, despite recent rain.

No lift lines, great snow conditions and very good terrain for a small/medium mountain. Also very ez to get in and out with kids rentals and such. We will be back!

We decided to try it because it was closer than most other mountains. If it wasn't for the deplorable condition of the roads leading to the mountain I would go again sometime. The last ten miles were like the 'Baja'. This isn't 'Big Time' skiing however; it's more mid level. Once we got there, the mountain was very nice and the people working there even nicer. They have a genuine interest in youth developement as first class terrain parks abound. Highly commendable. They have trails dedicated to all levels from the 'Bunny Slope' to the 'Extreme Mogals'. Just wish the trails were a little longer.

I love this mountain and its worth the drIive vs. going out to Wachusett. Low key, low stress, no lift lines, no crowds. Its a great family mountain, perfect for kids. My son learnt to snowboard there with Dylan and received excellent instruction. He still talks about Dylan to this day. Theres a variety of trails and the grooming is up to par. Its our go to mountain for getting out of the city for a days skiing / boarding and I highly recommend it.

Had a bad experience with my daughters first lesson (was taken up on the Mt before capable of making turns or stopping) and ran off the trail. 2nd visit for next lesson was like day and nite. Matt was her instructor this time and he was excellent! He knew of the previous situation and worked with her to get her confidence back up. By the end of that lesson she was turning much better and could control speed and direction. This guy knew how to teach!!!! We will definitely be back.

We had a fun day at Crotched on 1/3/14. This was our first ski day of the year. We got to the lift by 9, so waited in line for the first lift at 9 AM. Not sure why they don't open at 8:30 on the weekends. Conditions were excellent as they had groomed the trails very nicely and we enjoyed cruising the expert trails. Will admit that by 1 PM, we were starting to get bored as we had skied 2 or 3 trails over 5 times each. This is a good small mountain and we enjoyed the day. One concern is the Rocket lift stopped a number of times and we were told that has been an ongoing problem.

This is a great mountain for beginner to intermediates. My husband is a better skier than I and we could start on one trail together and he could branch off onto a blue halfway through while I took the winding easier trail down. Loved it! Two of the lifts were down which was a bit of a bummer but I'm not sure if that is how it usually is.

As a beginner I enjoyed taking a personal lesson through the Discovery program (which Liftopia should really advertise - a personal lesson was unexpected and really nice!) and then got to ski down a green slope that was long and winding, rather than some short little thing the beginners always get. Having only been skiing a few times it was a nice change of pace to have a good green option.

Great beginner area for teaching your friends with a very nice easy trail to practice on all day once they advance! Lot's of great advanced trails in the middle to keep others entertained! Love how they updated the lodge. I hadn't been there in years and was pleasantly surprised. We'll be back . . . only wish they had a beginner area policy like Pats Peak where you can ski beginner area for free. We have young grandsons we are trying to teach and hate to pay when they only last 15 min. more or less. We encourage you to maybe make a change there!!!

Great hill in S. NH The high speed quad gives you a lot more runs per hour, and almost never has a line. No lines at the other lifts. They pump out lots of snow and do a nice job with grooming. There are also great marked and unmarked glades. I would pick Crotched over Pats any day.

It is a good beginners mountain. It has some small terrain parks on one side and a section of green and blue trails for beginners. The bunny slope is deserted during the night but in the day it is barely populated.

Great snowmaking and grooming. Almost no lines to speak of. Good destination if you don't want to drive all the way up north to WM area.
