Afton Alps Reviews & Tips (6)
Afton is close to our home and it is a nice place to ski when it is not busy! I find on the weekends that their hills are very jammed packed and their is no security keeping the kids from cutting through the woods and flying out almost hitting people! This place can be VERY DANGERIOUS for someone who follows the rules cause NO ONE ELSE DOES!!!! I have seen kids jump off lifts and because the Clearence is low you almost fall off the lift trying to avoid the jumpers! Also too many people like to knock a few back and then jump on the slopes! A impaired skier is just as DANGERIOUS and a impaired driver! I just think this place is in MUCH NEED for improvement with safety but I think their interest is in ticket sales!

The have now installed a local cell phone tower and both At&t and Verizon get full bar coverage in the entire ski area. This is new this year and and a great addition. Afton gets VERY crowded at times and I recommend weekday skiing here very much as the hill is almost empty. Friday nights are a zoo with dozens of buses full of local high schoolers filling the hill and skiing out of control in large groups. Best in the metro though, no doubt.

Oh! And almost forgot...if you want wi-fi (or service) FORGET ABOUT THAT! There is no service whatsoever! (i have At&t 4g) And am not sure if this is the case for all carriers, but just a litte heads up.

This is a great place, although, early in the season the snow tends to be icy and chunky, leading to more injuries. The terrain park is very fun, and the runs are varied...wish they were longer though. Overall this is just a fun place to be, whether you're hanging out at the bar..watching the campfire, or going down the hardest hills, this place has something for everyone.

Best place in the twin cities area. Lots of runs, lots of lifts. There is plenty of variety for every level. The only drawback is that everyone else thinks the same about it, It gets pretty crowded.

I grew up skiing at Afton Alps! The runs are not very long, but there are a great variety of slopes and a lot of areas specifically for snowboarding. They also have a tubing hill, which is pretty fun. If noting else, it's a pretty location in the hills of Afton, MN.
