Wild Mountain Reviews & Tips (5)
Wild is okay, but I would recommend Afton Alps instead.
The chair lifts are so old and they barely move. You spend so much time on the chair lifts, because they're just so painfully slow.
The staff and especially the ski patrol really need an attitude adjustment.
BEWARE: Hours of operation aren't really hours of operation. They constantly close chairs early, so you can only use one or two runs.
Seriously go some place else instead.

My son and I had our first skiing experience this past weekend. We paid to have an hour lesson. I have to admit, I was very skeptical at first thinking it would be a waste of time. Thankfully I was dead WRONG! Our instructor Tony was the best teacher ever. We both felt like we were being encouraged without feeling like we were idiots. If you are first time skiers, or new to the slopes, I highly recommend this place. We will be back for sure.

Wild Mountain is pretty decent for the Minnesota area. I have been skiing MN and all of the places in the state for about the last 30 years. You can get some pretty good deals on lift tickets if you don’t ski on their crowded days. Snow coverage is excellent and as another reviewer mentioned first to open each year and usually last to close. The bulk of the snow is manmade boiler plate garbage, but that’s what you get when you don’t have a good snow year and we haven’t had one of those for years. We skied here on Christmas day and lines were non-existent and the hills were groomed nice. There aren’t any hills here that are much of a challenge but they will keep the beginner or intermediate busy for the day. Lots of terrain park stuff on one side of the bunny hill if you have kids who want to learn to destroy their gear on smaller obstacles. If large 30 foot kicker jumps, boxes, rails and poop chutes are your gig then hit the park. Watch out for after school when the local high school race teams take over one of the decent hills and gives you one less option to ski down. Lifts are old and clunky and slow but that is pretty much the norm for the small ski areas in MN as they would never invest in a high speed lift. Like I said, probably the best local place around close the twin cities otherwise drive north to Spirit Mountain or Lutsen for some real hills.
