I love Caberfae! Went skiing 3/6/16 and had a great time! Invited my brother along, he had never been there to ski and he enjoyed the runs as much as I did! The snow was excellent, the weather at its best and the staff both inside and out were pleasant and made us feel welcome. Rode the chair up with one who was on the ski patrol and saw her work in action. Quite friendly and professional, assurance that safety is a top priority for all who visit the resort was exactly what we saw! The price is great, especially when you get your tickets through liftopia. I will return.

A lot less than Boyne with decent runs and lots of fun! Lift tickets are $47 or so on a Saturday, at Boyne they are $80. Boyne is bigger and has better lifts/throughput but Caberfae is a nice alternative. The day lodge no longer lets you 'reserve' a table. At first I did not like the idea but it is good. They made a bunch of cubby holes for gear and bags, oversize bags can still go along the walls and under some of the folding tables. It makes it nice to have a spot to eat when you are ready just grab an open table and use it then leave. You can still put crock pots along the walls on the shelves. You are not allowed open beer of your own in the day lodge now, they watch for it. Put in a cup. The snow was decent although the temps were getting over 32 degrees. Coverage was decent considering. You can find some fun in the Notch or some of the back country area (but you have to hike out a little). Great weekend.

Great experience. Good snow, Tip for seniors. On Tue, Wed, Thu. Anyone 50 and older can ski and rent for $15 for the day.

If you have kids that need to learn to ski or snowboard...this is the most affordable place out there! We loved the size of the facility as it was not too big trying to manage 3 kids out there. We were very pleased with the instruction they received and we all had a blast! The room we stayed in was nothing fancy and could use some updating, but we were there to ski so it was fine.

I have been skiing Caberfae for the past 18 years. Last season was great with the opening of the back country and what I think was a record snow fall. It is definitely a great place to ski, friendly staff and no crowd. However, I have a suggestion, and that is they build a sun/lounge deck off the side of Olympia between I-75 and South Peak Trail to watch NASTAR racing or take in some rays of sun. What could only make that better is sipping down one of R-Dub killer bloody marys.

Our family of four skied for two days Mar 29 & 30. The mountain was in great shape snow-wise and lift lines were very short. This is just a really nice, modestly sized ski resort great for a family trip. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. In fact, one instructor noticed us talking about getting sore in our boots while we were getting ready the second day, and she took the initiative to recommend we get thin socks which made an amazing difference. Thanks Pam! Highly recommended.

Spent Friday night, Jan. 17 with my 15 yo grandson. He is an intermediate skiier. We had great snow conditions. Temps at 22 were bad. No problem with lift lines as they were very small, if any at all. Good night to ski.

Caberfae remains one of our favorite places to ski / ride! Great Beginner area located close to the Main Lodge, where the fireplace is always roaring. Big picnic area to eat your lunch, very family friendly. The "back country," area opened this season provides some new challenges! When Smiling Irishman gets crowded, head over to South Peak - lots of great runs on that side for Intermediate skiers / riders! Caberfae has been in business for over 75 years - they know how to provide a great experience, and yet manage to keep it within the budget of most families.

I've skied at Caberfae Since 2000-2001. This Christmas (2013) was the best snow EVER! Maybe the best snow in Michigan I've ever experienced. Tons of powder, and it kept snowing all day. The South Peak runs (Stagshead Bowl, GG's Ride) were nearly untouched, with a good 6 inches of powder everywhere! And R Dubs Pub had Bell's Two-Hearted on draft for only 5 bucks! and good food at the Blackmer Lodge (even though I brought my own lunch)... I stayed late, into the night-skiing!

Great runs, not as crowded as other places. Nice area with great views at the tip. Not much of a snowboard park, but I'm a skier . . . worth the discounted ticket price.

The hill is in excellent condition. Its like the end of January. I ski there almost every week last year, mostly night skiing. With new snow coming in the next week. You will see mid season conditions. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. The best deal in Michigan.

caberfae was very nice... we had a blast just make sure you have all hats, gloves, etc when you go cuz if you have to buy anything here you will regret it - we bought two pair of adult gloves for 45 dollars that could have been purchased at meijer for 15 and buy the time we were done skiing both of our gloves were almost worthless.. and i was not rough on them either - the staff was nice but they could use one more person in the rental shack - we spend an hour and a half the first day trying to get our skis and lift tickets all together - the guy running the ski rental would have to leave and attend the lessons desk.. his helper was in the service area - who in my opinion didn't appear to be doing anything most of the time that he could have been helping... the resort was nice and had enough runs for almost any skier - cabby kids was great just be sure to set em up for all day... def will return now that we know to bring our own equipment and know the ins and outs of getting your equipment.

I just have to say how impressed I was with the staff at the First Aid Station there at Caberfae. My son (snowboarder) got hurt on the South Peak and they were so helpful in transporting him by snowmobile back to the First Aid Station and then offered diagnosis and treatment recommendations to suffice until we could get him in to see an Orthopedic Doctor. Even the Dr. was impressed by their makeshift cast on his broken radius which stabilized his arm and significantly minimized the pain until he could be operated on and a pin put in the broken bone. I would highly recommend the place especially knowing that accidents do happen on occasion and if it takes place there, they First Aid Team will provide exceptional care.

Had a good time for the first half of the day skiing with my dad, girlfriend and brother on the easier south peak hills. There are a few quick places for tree skiing towards the bottom of the hill, and starting from the top, you can make your run last quite a while. Second half of the day, me and my brother separated from my dad and girlfriend who are novice skiers and hit the north peak. After skiing both Boynes, Shanty Creek, and almost every resort in the southern half of the state, this area definitely was the most fun me and my brother have had on the slopes. There are the obvious steep runs that are fun to go fast on, but the backcountry on the far side of the hill is great. Ungroomed powder throughout multiple runs made for an awesome time, because every time we came back down the hill we found a new trail. For anyone looking for a rush, our favorite trail was through the woods that you see to your right when you are first riding up the triple chair. Very fun, overall great experience. I definitely hope to head back up to Caberfae before the winter is over.

We had a great time at Caberfae. The lift operators were friendly as well as the staff and the cafe. The fireplace and adirondeck chair's are enjoyable for a mid day break. Although not as big of vertical drop as up north, they did a nice job of grooming the trails and getting open what they could in a timely manner. One observation, parking lot is a sheet of ice so do be careful. Several cars had to be pushed out of parking spots so choose your spot carefully. We were very grateful two people assisted us.

Was just there for the final weekend of the season. Had a great time with my beginner-level kids. It was their springfest or whatever they call it and it was St. Patty's day. They had a lot going on (costume contests / terrain & air comps) with an outdoor grill and taps. It's definitely a "locals" hill with everyone in lawnchairs (including grandparents out to watch the kids compete) and hanging out at the base of the main run...very bohemian feel . Everyone was very pleasent and prices were reasonable all around. It's smaller than Powderhorn / Indianhead, but go there with a good attitude and you won't be disappointed.

Liftopia is great way to find discounts. Hint - pack up that crock pot with your favorite chili or soup! That is the way many families did it, but it is a bit maddening when we tried to find a place to chill and saw all those picnic tables 'commandeered' by them. The greens are filled with first timers, so if you want to bomb the hill, hit some blues and your stress level will diminish. Good time!

Great place to take your family! Staff is friendly and prices are quite reasonable (even more so with Liftopia deals) Despite the dismal winter, the staff has done a fabulous job at getting the hills in great shape! Runs are long and varied - something for everyone! View from the top of Smiling' Irishman is awesome!

This place reminds me of a family-owned, mom and pop style ski resort. It's nothing fancy, but has all of the features you need for a great day on the slopes. The liftees and ski patrolees are extremely friendly and helpful, the food in the pub is awesome (I HIGHLY recommend the Pub Grilled Cheese), and the instructors are really patient and have a great sense of humor. I come from Soutwestern Michigan where our ski slopes are short, so getting up to Caberfae where the runs are long and vary was a real great treat! I will be back soon!!!

Back in the day, we all learned with tow ropes but, a MAGIC CARPET is so much easier when teaching your 3 year old. I hope Caberfae considers adding a magic carpet soon! Great value, great skiing, good size for a family with young children.

My wife and I skied 2 days and stayed one night at the makenzie lodge. It's a great place for some pretty cheap skiing. Try to go mid week seeing as there are sometimes (literally) bus loads of people (mainly kids and 1st time skiers) on Fridays and Saturdays. Not a bad place but it can get a little boring if you're there for more than one day. The back lift was usually not as busy and if you're a good skier it has more advanced and faster runs.

Went skiing on the coldest day so far this year, Friday - Jan 21st. Was a madhouse with youth groups and college night ($9). Not sure Caberfae grooms because there was lots o'ice. Found the crowds and icy conditions rather disappointing which is not typically the case at Caberfae.

There are lots of little secret glade runs here, you just have to look for them. Oh, and the ski patrol doesn't like it too much when you duck under the ropes for closed trails. But it's hard for them to catch you, and totally worth it. This place rocks in mid to late December when the lake-effect snow machine can drop up to a foot a day. Great snow, almost no lines. Thanks Caberfae!
