As usual Crystal is great for the kids. I had my 5 grand kids there and the mountain, our bungalow and snow conditions all were super. Don't eat at the Thistle restaurant. We gave it another chance after last years debacle and they managed to do it again. Service again was awful it took ten minutes for anyone to even ask if we wanted water let alone a cocktail. Food ok but pricey, Go to Frankfort and eat at the Stone Brewery.

Crystal is the best place to go for a quick midwestern trip. We went March 22-25 and found the snow in great shape, no crowds and great prices for the end of the season. I especially enjoy the pool, exercise facilities and hot tub(all included) after a day of skiing. And as always, the staff are extremely nice.

Love Crystal Mountain! Weekday and night skiing are the best, as the slopes are way less crowded.

Sunday and night time are the best time to ski. Seems to be crowded on Saturday until sundown!

We ski every Tuesday and have come here for many years with good discounts for homeschool group outings, but last year they raised prices and cut the discounts, so last week was the first time we came back for our usual Tuesday ski with some ok deal through advanced ticket purchase. What we didn't know was that they close the hill at 4:30 - that was a major disappointment. On the plus side there was nobody else there and conditions were great. They like to set themselves apart as the higher end resort in this part of MI, but my kids have just as much fun at Caberfae for less than half the price. This might have very well been our last drive to Crystal. :(

Love Liftopia! $25 for a Tuesday. Snow conditions were excellent! Crystal Mountain does a very good job grooming. Felt guilty that the resort was losing money that day - there were more employees than skiers that day! It is a completely different experience from skiing on a weekend. Being a geezer has its benefits.

We bought tickets through Liftopia and brought 4 teens 3.5 hrs to snowboard. Though I was told there would be a place for my crockpot and eating, it was not open on weekdays. They were accommodating and allowed me to set up nearby. It was a great day however, it was not revealed when we bought our tickets that Crystal closed at 4:30 that day. A bit disappointing but still overall a fine experience.

We bought tickets through Liftopia and brought 4 teens on a 3.5 hour journey to snowboard. It was a great day and though I was told there would be a place for my crockpot and eating, it was not open on that week day. They were accomodating however and we set up in another location which worked fine. Beware when you buy a Day Pass. It was not until we got there did we realize they closed at 4:30. That was a bit disappointing but the overall experience was still very good..

Arrive early to get a good parking spot and avoid the lift lines in the early morning. For advanced skiers, Loki, Thor, and Buck offer nice turns. The central run under the high speed lift can get rather boring and the wind always seems to hit right in the face there. My son (15 years old) liked the set up of the terrain parks this early season, more rails than jumps. The cafeteria can get very crowded so eat it's best to have lunch around 11:30 am or 1:00 pm.

Go early to get some good runs in. I love Crystal and it offers some great challenge and nice pleasant tree skiing which is nice for a Midwest resort. It is well run and the staff is crazy nice and will take care of you and the lift guys are great with kids and they keep the lines moving.

highest price of the areas I visited this past week (3/10 - 3/14). Not sure it was worth it. Seems like they increased the prices in 2014 and raised age for seniors. Try Shanty Creek and Caberfae Peaks for half the price. Only ski local Michigan hills doing the week. No crowds make it worth the continuous lifts with the short runs.

Nice mountain with a variety of lifts, good slopes, good amenities. Expensive for a Michigan hill, so book in advance.

We were there on a special package with a free third night if we came on a Sunday thru Wed. Took my grandkids ages 7,7,4 for a lesson and it turned out since it was a Monday they had a one on one with their instructors who were super. Great kid friendly place and they loved the indoor pool. Saved money by buying lift ticks for me and my two sons including one rental. Will be using Liftopia again later this year. One nice bump run for my expert sons. Would have been nice if they had a tubing run for the kids.

Great deal with Liftopia and easy to execute. Great runs, easy to access lifts, and courtesy staff. I had two children 9 and 11 attend private lessons with Jim and Jodi. Outstanding instructors! Money well spent. The kids had fun and built their confidence and want them the next time they come. Great BBQ Food Truck on the mountain with outdoor seating. Fabulous food and service. Only down fall was I had to buy helmets unexpectedly because they were out of the rental sizes needed. Upside, there were $10.00 off coupons conveniently on the back of the lift tickets. Great time - will definitely come up again.

Spent 12-17-13 on the snow in 5-6" of fluffy powder skiing the new detachable chair on buck. The hill has been re-contoured and is twice as wide. It's great! There is a beautiful village of cottages and a very cozy lodge filled with wonderful shopping adventures, yummy restaurants and a complete spa. Everything you need for a great stay.

Great deal on tickets. Took both kids, 11 and 13. Had a blast. Friday was 40 and sunny all day and snow was still perfect....that day you wish for. Looking forward to return trip next year.

Go midweek and take advantage of the small crowds. Went on a Wednesday and it seemed like there was about 100 people total. We got as many runs as we wanted in 4 hours. We loved the back area - had the runs all to ourselves. To top it off - the price was right with Liftopia discount!!!

It is the best place to ski in Michigan. Even on a busy day, the lift lines were short. The staff is friendly and courteous. It is conveniently close to Traverse City for lodging and meals.

Had a great time at Crystal with my beginner kids. My 8-yr olds first time on a lift and it went well especially on the newest lift with the conveyor loading. I agree the layout of the buildings is pretty bad. The building with the bar doesn't have a nice deck area at ground level. The one with a nice patio has no bar or cafeteria. From the lockers to the patio requires walking to the front of the building. All minor issues unitl you are running around in ski boots trying to herd three small kids. The bunny hill area is only for very little kids. Which I guess is good as it's too boring for the 8-yr old to stay on. Nicest compromise bunny hill I've seen in MI is at Snowsnake as well as Big Bird at Powderhorn.

Crystal mountain was below my expectations. There were no runs that could challenge me. I was expecting the vertical to be close to boyne mountain's but it was not. There was 10 inches of snow the day I skiied, but it was so busy that it was all skied out in no time. I expected them to groom before the night session but they did not, it was ice and crud for the rest of the night. The lift lines were also very long (10-15 minutes at one point) and the people that ski there cannot seem to get on the lift without falling and the lift would have to be stopped very often.

Usuualy Crystal is a great place to ski for the day with my family of five intermediate and advanced skiers. The banquet room is often open for picnicers and still has some food offers because the cafeteria is not the place for a pleasant break.

With no new snow yet I was impressed by the effort Crystal Mountain has put into getting the mountain completely open! Great conditions with a new Loki high speed quad. Skied on Tuesday and it was almost perfect. Fresh powder would make it so!

Liftopia ticket prices were great. I bought them for friends who do not ski there very often. Crystal is a great family place. Lots of different areas to ski and keep you busy for the day.

I just started boarding in January and found this place sastisfying to meet my needs to warm up on beginner runs, and challenge myself on some tougher blue runs. I spent a good chunk of my day over on the North Face and found it to be very well groomed and maintained, not to mention not too busy at all! I enjoyed the layout; we took the Loki lift up and then took Easy Street coming down, then took the Clipper up to get to the North Face. The liftees were VERY friendly and helpful, and ski patrol very knowledgeable and friendly as well. I did find the prices in the cafeteria to be a bit pricey, but that can be expected. I did enjoy knowing that we could pack a cooler and use grills outside of the Crystal Center to grill lunch if we wanted to. Looking forward to my next trip up.

We love the back slopes at Crystal. They are typically less busy, less ice patches and offer a variety of levels. Sunday mornings are a great time to go to Crystal, but after 1 or 2pm there are a lot of people.

Great resort given the limited vert in Mich. All the staff are frendly and helpfull. Split up and ride the single lines when the lifts get long. When you order pizza in the Lift Lounge, save yourself $5 delivery and walk downstaits and pick it up yourself.

We went to Crystal on MLK Day--lines were not bad at all, particularly if you stayed off the main high speed lift. Some tips and comments: -the beginner's area has an excellent magic carpet and is wide enough for snowboarders to practice turns. -for young "park" skiers, there are some fun rails and features to the right when you come off the high speed lift. -the main jumps are well designed. -Nastar runs from 1-3 pm. ($6.00 for 2 runs, $10 for unlimited--go mid-week to avoid lines.) -the elevation isn't that much but you can get some fast runs on Loki (far side). -the boarder cross run is OK but not as good as at Boyne Highlands. -Crystal has set up some short bump runs--watch out though for ice between the bumps. In this regard, Crystal is one of the few places in MI to retain some true black-diamond runs. -if you use a mug in the restaurant, hot water is free. -we like skiing at Crystal but as noted by others, it would be great if they upgraded some of the lifts. -it's alsp too bad there isn't a day lodge with cafeteria right by the parking lot. Like Boyne, Crystal caters to those who stay in the condos.

I ski Crystal Mountain consistently. I like the runs the only problem is the long lines on the weekends. Plus, it would be nice if they had more than one high speed lift. Otherwise, Crystal is a great place to learn how to ski. The staff are very friendly and the runs are very spread out. It's the kind of place you can ski for 6 hours and still have a great time.

Crystal is awesome. The hills were well groomed, the lifts were well organized so the wait-if any-was short, the lift operators were very professional, friendly, and very helpful. The ticket people had a printout of all the adult tickets I had purchased from Liftopia. The staff issued those tickets plus, they were very helpful with the junior tickets I needed to purchase. My tip: SKI CRYSTAL - IT ROCKS!! December 25 and 26 2010
