If you are coming from the Reno side and renting skis, boots and poles I found Mountain Top Sports on Mt. Rose Hwy very convenient and inexpensive. My son and I were expertly outfitted with all equipment for $20 each. The boots were very comfortable yet snug fitting.

Ask at the ticket office where the best snow is to start your day. And maybe where the worst skiing is! It worked for me.

First trip to Mount Rose. Impressed with the friendly casual atmosphere. Loved the band on the deck at the backside of the mountain. Also was pleasantly surprised by the challenging terrain in the chutes. We normally ski Kirkwood but these runs are really worth the extra hour from the bay area. Yellow Jacket reminds me of High Rustler in Alta.

Went with some 1st time beginner highschoolers. The liftopia deal was great which included a first time beginner lesson, rental and lift ticket for less than $50. Because of the non refundable policy, the problem with liftopia is that you are unable to make changes so know what you are buying otherwise you will have headaches. Because weather and how you are feeling is constantly changing, skiing is a sport that we change our minds so it becomes difficult buying several days of tickets with liftopia. My suggestion, bring a printer with you and buy your tickets for the deal you want the day before. Keep an eye out if there are only a few tickets left, otherwise your deal will be gone. If the deal at the resort is equal to liftopia, go with it. (Ladies day on Th. at Mt. Rose was $29) Mt. Rose is a great resort, especially offpeak but could see problems if on a weekend, or crowded.

We went Friday, Feb 28, and enjoyed minimal crowds and plenty of new but heavy snow. The weather was constantly changing, including a few complete whiteouts, which are very horrifying when you are halfway down the slope. Allow an extra amount of driving time when there is snow on the ground as snowplows are very slow. Nice runs. Avoid weekends.

Terrible resort. We went on Saturday February 15 and there was only 1 lift open due to heavy wind but we had non refundable tickets from liftopia. It was a waste of money and many people left after an hour including my family. Not going back.

Skiing was great although some of the lifts are still the old non-detachable kind. ** Ski rental line was horrendous. ** They still use old outdated and slow paper method. And they only had two techs on skis. Rent your skis in town to save an hour.

Mt. Rose is one of the best ski resort. But Liftopia made me a bad day at Mt. Rose. I bought a learner package. It was only for beginner not for intermediate skier. I called service center. They said that they can not refund or change the date. Liftopia ticket is not cheap. It's exactly same whth each resort web price. Buy lift ticket directly from each resort website. The ticket, you can use anyday till end of the season. Never even think about buying ticket from liftopia.

My family was in Tahoe to ski (and Board -- our older son) for a week. Went to six places in six days to include Mt. Rose. Runs were great, conditions excellent (in spite of the lack of recent snow), two high-speed chairs were superb and the staff was really execellent -- very friendly and professional -- seasoned unlike many other places and I mean that as a compliment.

I like great deals and Mt. Rose is the best deal around. Great snow, wide open runs, a high elevation (8260 ft), high speed lifts, and in Feb there are no lift lines. I purchased a 2-day lift ticket for under $ can't beat that price...and parked at the creek side lodge where it must have had no more than 20 cars. The Mt. Rose crew is fantastic...helpful, cordial, and they make everyone feel significant. I'll continue going there every Feb!

Mt. Rose is probably the closest resort to Reno and only about 20 minutes from Incline Village in Tahoe. The terrain is pretty steep and I'm not sure a beginner level person would have much fun there, but anyone intermediate and above will have lots of options. I was impressed that the runs were nearly all groomed for how steep they were, the two big 6-person lifts on each side of the mountain were fast and looked brand new. I was also impressed by the modern looking main lodge and secondary lodge. They looked like they were only a few years old if that. Super easy to access as well as the resort is right off the highway. Riding here on my way out of Tahoe will become a must do from here on out.

Make sure your board is waxed. The guys at the repair shop explained to me why my used (new to me) snowboard was icing up on the bottom and sticking instead of sliding. It needed wax. They were super nice and got the board waxed in about ten minutes. The entire Mt. Rose staff was very knowledgeable and super super friendly. Made my fist snowboarding experience completely enjoyable. I can't wait to get back there.

Fantastic mountain! I've been here a few times this year and the conditions have been superlative each time. Come here if you like steep terrain ("The Chutes" are about as extreme as you can get for in-bound terrain in Lake Tahoe), good tree runs, and long groomed runs.

12/7/12 A slow start to the winter with a very high snow level makes Rose one of the only areas with a base. It's firm but with modern grooming the mountain has alot of runs open and even though its not soft and deep it was just great to get out there.

We happened to go there on a March-end weekend which had a snowstorm on Saturday and a bright sunny day on Sunday! The result: amazingly great snow powder and loads of fun! The lifts stay open only until 4. The staff is genuinely warm and helpful. I even had two ambassadors come and ask me if I needed help when I had a tumble down one of the slopes. Rental/lesson rates are one of the best, plus the hotels in Reno/Sparks are a great bargain and conveniently located! Been there twice now, will go again.

Trip was great. Kids and I had great time and the best snow condition of the year. I was little concerned with using the LifTopia to book the ski trip but it worked out perfect. When I showed up at the ticket booth to pick up my tickets the agent scan the print outs and handed my tickets over. No Hassel and recommend to anyone wanting to save money. Great Service.

Spent a wonderful 3 days skiing at Mt. Rose. My daughter (a beginner) mastered the basic skills on the first day in the rosebud program and became a FOX (3rd tier and ready for blue runs) on the last day. Both my wife and myself learned a few great tricks and completely confident in various sections of the slopes. Thanks to all the wonderful instructors (kids to adults). This resort has the largest green area for beginners and excellent combination of blue and black plus a super challenging double diamond "Chute". Midweek is definitely the best of lessons as much less crowded. Hope there will be more snow in the upcoming weeks for another visit. Pricing in Liftopia is unbeatable and spreading the words at the resort also helped a few others to take advantage of all offers. Thank you Liftopia!!

Instructors are fantastic and patient. I've been there a few times now, had a different instructor each time but all of them were helpful. There's also a lot of green runs for the beginner. Great place to learn - however, I would avoid holidays and weekends if you're new to the sport; it's just too crowded. They do have a cafeteria, but the food is way overpriced. It's good food, and the portions are large, but you're much better off bringing your own lunch if you plan to be there all day.

Mt. Rose can get a bit crowded on the weekends and the view doesn't compare to many other Tahoe area resorts. However it has some of the most enjoyable runs to ski. If you can get a deal on lift tickets Mt. Rose is a fun time, but Diamond Peak just a few minutes down the road is a better value with better views.

Mt. Rose is a great resort for beginner snowboarders/skier and families NEW to the sport. My daughter and I took a beginner's lesson two days in a row and we had a different instructor for each day. Both were really patient and attentive - Thanks Colby and Colton! Each instructor had a different teaching style so the tips they shared helped with the learning process. I'd recommend going during the weekday because it is obviously less crowded. And, as usually, the staff at Mt. Rose is nothing less than awesome, professional, and courteous. If you are newbie to the sport, Mt. Rose is definitely the place to go.

Mt.Rose is a great place to ski! Even with it being a poor snow year, the man made snow kept the mountan open from top to bottom.Although the runs were limited the crowd was small and we never waited to get the lift.I would recomend it to anyone at any level.

Mt. Rose is great for beginners, and no exceptions with the man-made snow. Almost all the green runs were open, with little to no ice and therefore very few surprises. All the staff were helpful, from the rentals to the lifts. This was my second time out at Mt. Rose (the last was in February 2011 when all the lifts/runs were open), and I would definitely go back. The first-timer's package is a no-brainer for beginners who don't need to access any more than the Ponderosa or Galena lifts.

Bought for my son. Unfortunately only the beginner bunny lift was open, and they decided not to go. He boarded the other two days but condition were very poor due to no snow. Not Mt. Roses fault. Man made snow accounts for a very small part of their snow cover. They are open as long as the sun is up. Check the weather and their website for conditions before going out. I just took a friend to the beginner area which was large, man made and the only part open due to conditions. Staff is is above and beyond in being helpful, not just on the slopes.

When I signed up for an intermediate class, they mixed the novice class and the intermediate class, forcing me to do the novice class which I had already done the day before, I had found the novice class too simple and had decided to join the intermediate class, hoping to get more challenging slopes the next day. Since it was a novice class, I had to go on the beginner slopes instead of doing intermediate slopes. The lack of real snow displeased me. Having skied in Banff,Canada and Snowbird, Utah where the instructors were really fun and excellent, I find the Reno instructors talk too much and ski too little during the lessons. I've decided not to go back to Reno.

It was good deal for $41 instead of $56 at the window since we decided at last min (trip was Sat and we bought on Wed). Although the weather wasn't good for enough snow and so less lift opened at Mt Rose, it was still good warm up for 1st run this year. I think Mt rose shall be better if they have more lifts open. For my 1st visit there, it was still quite nice and smooth run with good deal from liftopia. Plus it was so less hassle to deal with when we brought purchase print out to get lift tix.

First time to Mt. Rose, but hope it won't be my last. I was amazed at the terrain available, as I'd always considered Mt. Rose to be a small local area. Lift equipment is top notch, folks are courteous, helpful and friendly (locals and employees), chutes are fun! Prices are reasonable, too. Stay in Reno and the short ride makes for more ski time. Only downside might be that Mt. Rose makes its own weather and the road to the base can be treacherous.

This trip was really good. The mountain is really nice for beginners and intermediate. It's my 4rth year over all and come from east coast. I went with a beginner snowboarder and he loved it. It was not crowded at all. Lots of room to ski. The terrain were decent and the mountain were very powdery. Really nice when you fall. Towards 6-7 it starts getting harder tho. Search out "Jetta" - a small black Diamond on the Rose side. Excellent pitch on the skiers right on the bottom half of this steep little run that always seems to hold the best snow of the mountain, even with wind-pack and firm conditions exist elsewhere. It's my new favorite run there!

Go early to get the fresh snow. We just spent two great days at Mt Rose. Tuesday was a clear day with track hard snow and Wednesday was stormy with new mashed potatoes. Get there early! Mount Rose was not at all crowded, but after lunch, the snow was hard ice and tough to fall on. No crowd at all on a Sat., 2/12. No one even checked our lift tix all day. Weather was nice, but huge gusts of wind would make you keep your jacket on and face covered. Lifts moved slow and had frequent stops so could only do one run in 20 min. Lots of injuries for people in the afternoon, mostly because the ground was incredibly packed and hard.

Mt Rose is a cloud magnet. There could be sunny skies at all other resorts in Tahoe, but Slide Mt (which is the mt the resort is on, located across the hwy from the actual Mt Rose) can be in the clouds, and even be snowing off & on all day, as it was on Feb 8th. It was 15 degrees in the pkng lot at 9 am & 18 at 4 pm which made for arctic conditions, but nice powdery snow on the groomers. The last 3 times I went to Rose, we were in the clouds all day. Be prepared!

Had a great two days of skiing 2/6 & 2/7. I'm a beginner and haven't been skiing in years. The tickets were very reasonable ($29 for the second day). Had two lessons with Scott and highly recommend him. I've never had so much fun and been so comfortable on the slopes as I did after his instruction.

I am a green, getting into blue skier and returned for an annual trip to Tahoe with several other green/beginner skiiers. We all love Mt. Rose for the large area of easy to more challenging terrain for us!! No fresh snow on 2/6-7, but the grooming helped a lot and we had a great time skiing, and had two great small group lessons with Scott: he really brought me to a new level and understanding of what I'm doing.

Just got back from Rose and it was the bomb! A little crowded on Saturday but that's expected for being the closest to Reno. Some very steep Blues but It was very nice. They could use some more snow though.

I had two tickets for last saturday nd Sunday and the snow was incredible and the ies of Lake Tahoe and Reno are great. The runs are nicely groomed and steeper than most Tahoe ski areas. The new builing on the Slide Mtn side is nicely designed and a great piece of modern architecture. You can follow the sun from Mt Rose to Slide Mtn and back to Mt Rose late afternoon which you cannot do anywhere else in the area. 5 out of 5 all round

Great skiing on Mon. Jan. 31st. 4" fresh packed powder. Mondays are good days to ski, no crowds on either side. All runs in good shape.

Had a great day Sunday the 30th. About 4" of new snow. Tip I can pass on is park at the new Winter's Creek Lodge. Less people and the lodge is beautiful with great views. Nice job!

Skiing on 1/18/11 was great! Firm in the morning, but warmed up to enjoy in the afternoon runs, they keep the mountain in excellent shape, and the staff are friendly and courteous

We skiied Sat. and Sun. It was a little icey in some areas on Saturday but then got some new snow Sat night so of course Sunday had better conditions. We love Mt.Rose, they do a great job of grooming and there is never any crowds. Skiiers are courteous and prices are reasonable

I skied Saturday and Sunday and it was epic. Mt. Rose grooms the runs like no other ski resort. We were, are, very pleased with Mt. Rose and will continue to go there. The snowboarders made it a little less fun, but, hey that's ski resorts.

I hadn't skied in 22 years. The last plce I skied was at mount Rose with my dad. Liftopia saved me huge money. I bought 1 month in advance and on a weekday. Mt. Rose was everything I remembered and more. The last time I skied, skiis were a little wider than cross country skiis and almost as long! My have things changed. At least skiing is like riding a bike. It all came flowing back the moment the boot clicked into the binding. I only fell once, because of stamina, not ability. Make sure you do lots of scwats! (my poor legs). Thankyou MT.Rose, and Liftopia, I'm a snow bumb again and passing it on to my 5 year old.

Great ski resort! It was very icy the day I was there, but the whole mountain was groomed and all the trails were open. Definitely be sure to check out the east (Slide Bowl) side also.

Mt. Rose is one of my favorite Tahoe area ski resorts. The runs are first class, the grooming is excellent and the views are breath taking. The only concern I have is that the ski patrol needs to regulate the speedsters on Kit Carson Traverse which I believe is a SLOW zone to the main runs (at least the SLOW signs at the head of the run indicates that). I was nearly creamed by a couple of these inconsiderate jerks near the Lake View lift. None the less I will be back. Thank you...

The snow was awesome, I was told it was icy and it was not. It was great. Only saw a couple of snowboarder caused injuries for the whole day. Overall the staff is great and the whole mountain rocks.

Ski-ing is great. Staff at the cook counter could learn more customer service tips. They shout a lot and did not listen to orders as a result. Had to order 3 times as the first guys seem more interested in pushing you along then taking orders and relaying to the cook. I mean, why asked the customer for the same question each time?

I bought a one day lift ticket with $12 food for $29. It was a great deal. I lost the voucher and Guest Services was very kind and just looked up my name with an ID. So it's very easy. Rent skis about 2 miles before you get to Mt. Rose at a shop with a great proprieter for $20 vs. $40 at Mt. Rose. I stayed in Reno at a casino hotel booked on hotwire, very good and flew into Reno, easy and close to Mt. Rose.

Park on the Slide Mountain side, it gets the sun in the morning and it's easier to get right on the slopes from there. Seems there is a turn in interest in skiing again as there were a lot more skiiers than boarders up here!

The snow and weather conditions were great on 03/11! The grooming however was not very good. Having 10 years of grooming experience (at Sugar Bowl) It was easy to see that the persons doing the grooming were in a hurry and did not get the cutter bar deep into the snow and therefore it had a nice corduroy on the top over hard ice. Not good! Glad I decided to ski on this day and not snowboard. Really like Mt. Rose. Close and the deals on liftopia are great!

I have to agree with Min. I wish there were some open date tickets. We got tickets to ski on Sat 1/1. Weather was horrible, very windy. I also did not want to waste the ticket, so I took 7-8 runs. Great snow, but given a choice I would not have skied that day. Love Mt Rose. I wish the weather had been better.

Ordered lift tickets very late and only had very limited choices. But still a few dollar cheaper than other places. If you can book ski trip weeks earlier, you may get way better deal from liftopia. Limitation is that you have to use the tickets on the specified dates. Wish they can sell some open date tickets. Mt Rose was very windy on Dec 29. There was a heavy snow storm on Dec 28 night and continued on Dec 29. My ticket was dated Dec 29 and I went to Mt Rose because I didn't want waste the ticket. Our trip wasn't very pleasant because of weather. But at good weather condition, Mt Rose is an excellent ski resort.

Mt. Rose is my favorite. Nicest people ski here. Get a deal and come up A's you can. The high elevation kept it from an icy weekend, slushy but no problem for my ski at all. Went down waterfall, aidas, with best speed I ever tried. Great runs!
