Reviews & Tips (91)

We happened to go there on a March-end weekend which had a snowstorm on Saturday and a bright sunny day on Sunday! The result: amazingly great snow powder and loads of fun! The lifts stay open only until 4. The staff is genuinely warm and helpful. I even had two ambassadors come and ask me if I needed help when I had a tumble down one of the slopes. Rental/lesson rates are one of the best, plus the hotels in Reno/Sparks are a great bargain and conveniently located! Been there twice now, will go again.

Trip was great. Kids and I had great time and the best snow condition of the year. I was little concerned with using the LifTopia to book the ski trip but it worked out perfect. When I showed up at the ticket booth to pick up my tickets the agent scan the print outs and handed my tickets over. No Hassel and recommend to anyone wanting to save money. Great Service.

Spent a wonderful 3 days skiing at Mt. Rose. My daughter (a beginner) mastered the basic skills on the first day in the rosebud program and became a FOX (3rd tier and ready for blue runs) on the last day. Both my wife and myself learned a few great tricks and completely confident in various sections of the slopes. Thanks to all the wonderful instructors (kids to adults). This resort has the largest green area for beginners and excellent combination of blue and black plus a super challenging double diamond "Chute". Midweek is definitely the best of lessons as much less crowded. Hope there will be more snow in the upcoming weeks for another visit. Pricing in Liftopia is unbeatable and spreading the words at the resort also helped a few others to take advantage of all offers. Thank you Liftopia!!

I brought my two kids and husband up to ski this week at Mt. Rose. It was our first time using Liftopia. I will never go to a ski resort again without first searching the deal on the Liftopia website. It is a great way to afford bringing your whole family skiing!! Mt. Rose is a great little resort. There are wonderful runs for all level of skiers and snowboarders. It is one of my most favorite ski resorts in the Tahoe/Reno areas. I cannot wait to go again and I will definitely go to Liftopia.com first!!!

Instructors are fantastic and patient. I've been there a few times now, had a different instructor each time but all of them were helpful. There's also a lot of green runs for the beginner. Great place to learn - however, I would avoid holidays and weekends if you're new to the sport; it's just too crowded. They do have a cafeteria, but the food is way overpriced. It's good food, and the portions are large, but you're much better off bringing your own lunch if you plan to be there all day.

Mt. Rose can get a bit crowded on the weekends and the view doesn't compare to many other Tahoe area resorts. However it has some of the most enjoyable runs to ski. If you can get a deal on lift tickets Mt. Rose is a fun time, but Diamond Peak just a few minutes down the road is a better value with better views.

Mt. Rose is a great resort for beginner snowboarders/skier and families NEW to the sport. My daughter and I took a beginner's lesson two days in a row and we had a different instructor for each day. Both were really patient and attentive - Thanks Colby and Colton! Each instructor had a different teaching style so the tips they shared helped with the learning process. I'd recommend going during the weekday because it is obviously less crowded. And, as usually, the staff at Mt. Rose is nothing less than awesome, professional, and courteous. If you are newbie to the sport, Mt. Rose is definitely the place to go.

Nice ski trip last thur and Fri with no lines. A decent amount of snow on the ground considering the low snowfall this year. Watch your speed on the highway back to Tahoe, cops have radar.

Mt.Rose is a great place to ski! Even with it being a poor snow year, the man made snow kept the mountan open from top to bottom.Although the runs were limited the crowd was small and we never waited to get the lift.I would recomend it to anyone at any level.

Mt. Rose is great for beginners, and no exceptions with the man-made snow. Almost all the green runs were open, with little to no ice and therefore very few surprises. All the staff were helpful, from the rentals to the lifts. This was my second time out at Mt. Rose (the last was in February 2011 when all the lifts/runs were open), and I would definitely go back. The first-timer's package is a no-brainer for beginners who don't need to access any more than the Ponderosa or Galena lifts.

Great Price - but would NOT recommend skiing the slopes right now. The man made snow is an effort, but conditions are lacking. The lift operators and people are REALLY nice, but the snow's just not there right now! I'm from Texas and we only had 1 day to ski - my 11 yo son loved it however... We'll be back next year!

Bought for my son. Unfortunately only the beginner bunny lift was open, and they decided not to go. He boarded the other two days but condition were very poor due to no snow. Not Mt. Roses fault. I bought the lift ticket knowing this could happen. Planned on going next week but are changing our plans due to no snow.

Man made snow accounts for a very small part of their snow cover. They are open as long as the sun is up. Check the weather and their website for conditions before going out. I just took a friend to the beginner area which was large, man made and the only part open due to conditions. Staff is is above and beyond in being helpful, not just on the slopes.

When I signed up for an intermediate class, they mixed the novice class and the intermediate class, forcing me to do the novice class which I had already done the day before, I had found the novice class too simple and had decided to join the intermediate class, hoping to get more challenging slopes the next day. Since it was a novice class, I had to go on the beginner slopes instead of doing intermediate slopes. The lack of real snow displeased me. Having skied in Banff,Canada and Snowbird, Utah where the instructors were really fun and excellent, I find the Reno instructors talk too much and ski too little during the lessons. I've decided not to go back to Reno.

It was good deal for $41 instead of $56 at the window since we decided at last min (trip was Sat and we bought on Wed). Although the weather wasn't good for enough snow and so less lift opened at Mt Rose, it was still good warm up for 1st run this year. I think Mt rose shall be better if they have more lifts open. For my 1st visit there, it was still quite nice and smooth run with good deal from liftopia. Plus it was so less hassle to deal with when we brought purchase print out to get lift tix.

The first day I went the only lifts that were open were Northwest and Ponderosa, the second day the only lift open was Pondersoa. Although $60 is a great deal for a two day pass, it isnt when the entire mountain is essentially closed.

First time to Mt. Rose, but hope it won't be my last. I was amazed at the terrain available, as I'd always considered Mt. Rose to be a small local area. Lift equipment is top notch, folks are courteous, helpful and friendly (locals and employees), chutes are fun! Prices are reasonable, too. Stay in Reno and the short ride makes for more ski time. Only downside might be that Mt. Rose makes its own weather and the road to the base can be treacherous.

This trip was really good. The mountain is really nice for beginners and intermediate. It's my 4rth year over all and come from east coast. I went with a beginner snowboarder and he loved it. It was not crowded at all. Lots of room to ski. The terrain were decent and the mountain were very powdery. Really nice when you fall. Towards 6-7 it starts getting harder tho. It's mid march now in 2011. Over all this mountain is pretty good.

Search out "Jetta" - a small black Diamond on the Rose side. Excellent pitch on the skiers right on the bottom half of this steep little run that always seems to hold the best snow of the mountain, even with wind-pack and firm conditions exist elsewhere. It's my new favorite run there!

Had a great time with my son. Outstanding location for my sone to learn to snowboard. Wide open trails and easy lifts to ride. FYI - Even though the signs say chains needed, we found the road perfectly clear. Not sure why they were flashing, but assume they are remotely operated from a DOT site.

Go early to get the fresh snow. We just spent two great days at Mt Rose. Tuesday was a clear day with track hard snow and Wednesday was stormy with new mashed potatoes. We could still find some untracked even late in the day off the Washoe. Not many people ventured out on that stormy day and really missed a great day. We got a great deal on the lift rides from Liftopia and will use them again for sure.

Get there early! Mount Rose was not at all crowded, but after lunch, the snow was hard ice and tough to fall on. No crowd at all on a Sat., 2/12. No one even checked our lift tix all day. Weather was nice, but huge gusts of wind would make you keep your jacket on and face covered. Lifts moved slow and had frequent stops so could only do one run in 20 min. Lots of injuries for people in the afternoon, mostly because the ground was incredibly packed and hard.

Mt Rose is a cloud magnet. There could be sunny skies at all other resorts in Tahoe, but Slide Mt (which is the mt the resort is on, located across the hwy from the actual Mt Rose) can be in the clouds, and even be snowing off & on all day, as it was on Feb 8th. It was 15 degrees in the pkng lot at 9 am & 18 at 4 pm which made for arctic conditions, but nice powdery snow on the groomers. The last 3 times I went to Rose, we were in the clouds all day. Be prepared!

The new builing on the Slide Mtn side is nicely designed and a great piece of modern architecture. I hadn't skied in 22 years. The last plce I skied was at mount Rose with my dad. Liftopia saved me huge money. I bought 1 month in advance and on a weekday. Mt. Rose was everything I remembered and more. The last time I skied, skiis were a little wider than cross country skiis and almost as long! My have things changed. At least skiing is like riding a bike. It all came flowing back the moment the boot clicked into the binding. I only fell once, because of stamina, not ability. Make sure you do lots of scwats! (my poor legs). Thankyou MT.Rose, and Liftopia, I'm a snow bumb again and passing it on to my 5 year old.

Mt. Rose is one of my favorite Tahoe area ski resorts. The runs are first class, the grooming is excellent and the views are breath taking. The only concern I have is that the ski patrol needs to regulate the speedsters on Kit Carson Traverse which I believe is a SLOW zone to the main runs (at least the SLOW signs at the head of the run indicates that). I was nearly creamed by a couple of these inconsiderate jerks near the Lake View lift. None the less I will be back. Thank you...

Ski-ing is great. Staff at the cook counter could learn more customer service tips. They shout a lot and did not listen to orders as a result. Had to order 3 times as the first guys seem more interested in pushing you along then taking orders and relaying to the cook. I mean, why asked the customer for the same question each time?

I bought a one day lift ticket with $12 food for $29. It was a great deal. I lost the voucher and Guest Services was very kind and just looked up my name with an ID. So it's very easy. Rent skis about 2 miles before you get to Mt. Rose at a shop with a great proprieter for $20 vs. $40 at Mt. Rose. I stayed in Reno at a casino hotel booked on hotwire, very good and flew into Reno, easy and close to Mt. Rose.

The snow and weather conditions were great on 03/11! The grooming however was not very good. Having 10 years of grooming experience (at Sugar Bowl) It was easy to see that the persons doing the grooming were in a hurry and did not get the cutter bar deep into the snow and therefore it had a nice corduroy on the top over hard ice. Not good! Glad I decided to ski on this day and not snowboard. Really like Mt. Rose. Close and the deals on liftopia are great!

Ordered lift tickets very late and only had very limited choices. But still a few dollar cheaper than other places. If you can book ski trip weeks earlier, you may get way better deal from liftopia. Limitation is that you have to use the tickets on the specified dates. Wish they can sell some open date tickets. Mt Rose was very windy on Dec 29. There was a heavy snow storm on Dec 28 night and continued on Dec 29. My ticket was dated Dec 29 and I went to Mt Rose because I didn't want waste the ticket. Our trip wasn't very pleasant because of weather. But at good weather condition, Mt Rose is an excellent ski resort.

Really Really Really good snow.... crowded but enough runs to get away from it all. Nice staff, snow well groomed. The Chutes were awesome, still powder after three days....

Mt. Rose is my favorite. Nicest people ski here. Get a deal and come up A's you can. The high elevation kept it from an icy weekend, slushy but no problem for my ski at all. Went down waterfall, aidas, with best speed I ever tried. Great runs!

I know Mt.Rose for years. This season the conditions are very good for December. I was skiing Saturday 12/11/10 and did not feel any machine made snow. All natural. I expect to keep myself with Mt Rose. I appreciate a good deal about tickets from Liftopia. Thank you!

Great little mtn. Skied on thursday 12/09, you could make quick laps on either 6-pak chair without a stop. NO LIFTLINES! Weekdays seldom have a crowd. Yeh, the runs aren't that long, but there are lots of 1400 vert. cruisers. If you want steeps, none better than the chutes. $15 lift tic from Liftopia, doesn't get any better!!

Ummm have fun! Was good snow even tho it hadn't snowed for most of a week and its the beginning of the season. Midweek skiing is such a treat since there's no crowds! And $13 dollars for that is even more awesome! Thanks!

Mt.Rose has a friendly staff, is easy to get to and has easily accessible parking. The runs are short but the lifts are fast, so it works out. It is not busy at all during the week. Thanks Liftopia for the great deal!

Went here for the first time on Black Friday. Best choice I ever made! Super dead, NO one was here! Barely waited for any lifts! Freshly groomed! Although there were parts where you can see dirt, it was still a great experience. And how can you complain for $17? We met some kids at Burger King telling us they were going to Boreal (I assumed it was $15 College Fridays) and they tell me it's full price for that lame resort. I would definitely go again. Only negative is that it is a bit far from everything and I wish they had a bigger terrain park.

Call ahead, I love this little mountain, which has great history, but often it is 1/2 closed or 2/3rds closed (chutes, slide side). We hit it on this past Wednesday and had a great time, thanks to Liftopia....$18 passes!

Because Mt. Rose has a higher base elevation & it's on the East side of the Sierra, it gets lighter snow. That means lighter powder. And has been noted above, steep and deep can be found at Mt. Rose. Sunday, November 21st, Mt. Rose may have been the only Tahoe resort to open longer, steeper (upper blue) run (Kit Carson). I was among the 1st 40 people into the powder. It might have been the best riding North Lake Tahoe?

mt rose is my vacation spot away from large resorts. it has quality runs (albeit shorter) but at such a fraction of the traffic larger resorts have. it's become my resort of choice.

Mt. Rose is truly a Tahoe gem. Most folks head straight to Squaw/Alpine/Kirkwood, but the Chutes here are very worth checking out, especially if you can time the opening of the gates. Definitely the longest sustained steep slopes around the lake.
