Massanutten Reviews & Tips (3)

My wife and I learned (instructors were friendly and capable) to ski here. Massanutten has been our annual ski trip destination for the last 5 years. We're both advanced beginners and the beginner and intermediate runs offer easy and challenging (for our skills) fun. When conditions don't facilitate skiing, there are plenty of non-ski activiities to occupy our time, including a great mountain hike above and around the slopes. Thus far accomodations have been comfortable and well-maintained. The only complaint comes from my wife, who hates riding the lifts because there are no ski supports. The weight of boots and skis irritate her knees as she rides the lifts.

Ain't No Thaang Beginner Skier
We own a vacation home and our boys (now college aged young adults) got their start at Massanutten. Since beginning 15 years ago, they've trained with a national snowboarding team based in New Hampshire and have traveled the national competition circuit while living in N.H., Breckenridge & Tahoe from November - April. Yes, Massanutten is a smaller mountain and the terrain park can't compare to Peak 9 at Breckenridge, my boys STILL enjoy coming 'home' to the mountain where they began snowboarding (even if they can't throw inverts!).

Riding the Nut Advanced Snowboarder
People will say Massanutten is small or boring. Those people have never skied this resort. Massanutten is the tallest resort in VA and MD! Yes it is compact when compared to the big named resorts in WV and MD, however if you enjoy time on the slopes you can't go wrong! Massanutten is my favorite VA resort to ski Para-dice and Diamond Jim are two great, long black diamonds that change conditions every hour of the day. Upper Mak Attack can be a steep black or a mogul playground layered with pow! Sure if you stay on Southern comfort youll have a long day on the lift but stay up top and youll get a day on some great slopes for a good price! A+ ski resort
