Camelback Reviews & Tips (69)

Great conditions this past weekend! The lift lines were long if you went on the high speed detachable quads, but if you go on the older doubles, no line at all and you get up much quicker. Trails are a little on the easier side, and I 100% recommend this mountain for beginners. The rental area is a little split apart, opposed to being all in one building with the lockers, food, ski shop, etc meaning walking outside in the bitter cold temperatures before putting on all your gear isn't too fun, but you're going to be outside for another few hours skiing, so why complain? I recommend this mountain to all beginners, but most of the trails are a little to easy for an intermediate or expert like myself!

I suggest taking a day off from work and go during the week!! There were so many times I felt like I was the only one on the trail, and it was awesome! There's some nice green trails, and plenty of options when it comes to the blues as you're coming down the mnt. I hope to get back there before the end of the season!

Went on Friday March 1st. I liked it! I got there just before it opened and it was snowing a little. The trails were nice. Not crowded early. By lunchtime 1:30 it was getting crowded with Boarders. I have no problem sharing the hill but you could tell they had no sense of the "Rules of the road". If you're coming down on someone and want to pass, What do you do?? They don't know. (Not just boarders) so there were some collisions. I have a joke , What do Snow and Snowboarders have in common? They both lay on the mountain all day. LOL

Never go here on a weekend unless you get here early and resolve to leave by lunchtime. Easily waited 30 min in lift lines and the trails were clogged with tons of people, many of whom were skiing above their ability and didn't know how to stop or turn. If you come to Camelback, expect to be involved in a collision. It's inevitable due to the crowds and the overall inexperience and recklessness of the cliental. I've been hit at least 5 times at Camelback by careless skiers and riders who were uphill from me; ski patrol does nothing to enforce the responsibility code. Expect lots of ice, naturally, mediocre grooming, and thin snow coverage. Trails rated blue here are pretty easy-more like green trails out west. Nile Mile is a nice gentle intermediate trail that's a decent length that's fun to cruise on when it's not crowded. Would only go back on a weekday.

Watched the weatherforecasts for temparature and wind then bought very reasonable tickets the day before Thursday, picked em right up at will call at 8:30 and were skiing at 9. Perfectly groomed snow at both peaks and only a few 2 minute lines. Got over 16 runs by 1:30 and were out of there as the buses arrived. A great warm up for a trip out west, definitely recommend arriving and leaving early. Will do this again.

Snow was great, go during the week because the lift lines smaller and not so many people on the slopes to get in your way. pre-paid ticket line was long, they need to open more windows. Overall good skiing even with my 1979 Yamaha skis. They out carved the new style but took more energy! The new style skis are much easier to use but are not as fast as the old 170's! The guys at the lifts were cool, the ladies not so much...Hats off to the bearded dude...whats up!!! Great trip. Everybody loved my camo suit and fur hat. They all called me Grizzly Adams or the walrus, See you all soon!!

I had my suspicions about Camelback because my family usually goes to Colorado and the Rocky Mountains (not anymore since we have no money) but my boyfriend and I went on Jan 18th which was a friday. It was a nice day trip. The trails were fine until later on around 8pm they got extremely icy. Wish they had more trails open. We wound up going on the same ones over and over again. Lift people are super friendly. Some of the fellow skiers and snowboarders not so much. I am definitley glad we went on a friday. Only got crowed from 3 to 7 and after 7 there literally was no line for the lifts and the trails were not crowded at all during this time. Plus night skiing was the best part about the trip besides the trails becoming very icy. Would go again, during the week.

We purchased tickets via Liftopia for Saturday, January19th, 2012. I wouldn't recommend buying online for weekend visits. The $4.50 savings per ticket wasn't worth the one hour wait in the will call line. While I waited an hour, my friend got through the line to purchase tickets in about 20 minutes. The snow at Camelback was poorly groomed, and later in the day riding became very difficult and frustrating, as much of the fresh snow was pushed off to the sides, leaving frequent patches of slick, packed, granular snow that made turning on a snowboard very difficult. Wait time for the lifts seemed to be on average between 5-10 minutes, with the wait for the L8 lift near the "Nile Mile" trail reaching up to 15 minutes or more. I would go back to Camelback for a mid-week trip, but never again on a weekend.

Great deal on twilight tix. Poorly groomed trails. The poor trail conditions may be due in part to some of the new snow and mostly thanks to the large amount of inexperienced snowboarders and their lazy habbit of plowing mounds of snow into the sharp turns. Once the crowd thins out after about 5pm there is plenty of space to manuver and navigate the impromptu moguls they make.

Great gotta ride at night or in the early morning on weekends. On weekdays you can ride whenever. Tons of people during the day on weekends only really. Lift people are super friendly and Camelback has some longer runs for the NJ and PA region. I have a season pass now so I go all of the time now. When they are making snow it is pretty good, I do not really like the fact that they groom all of the trails.

Open till 10pm! After around 6pm the crowd dissipate's and the lines for the lifts disappear. Get a lot more time skiing at this time.

We went Jan 6 - 9 - all three days only 2 non beginner lifts were open causing over crowding on intermediate slopes with half the intermediate and expert slopes closed to boot! One slope was already going bare - with stones - yes stones in the trails. Too many people I suppose. My lift ticket blew off after my 3rd run. Fortunately my friends found it because I was being treated like a criminal in "guest" services attempting to get a replacement. We made the best of the trip and ended up skiing just one trail - Asp - for our last day since it was the least crowded. My suggestions: find out how many trails and lifts are open before going to Camelback and make sure you secure your lift ticket!

Get to the will call window early to pick up your Liftopia tickets. There is only one will call window, and it was a long wait. All online ticket sales, Liftopia or other, get picked up at that one window including people who purchased their rentals online. The clerk takes height & weight info, etc., from those who purchased their rentals online, and this made the line go really SLOW. And I was there midweek (non-holiday).

Camelback is definitely the best ski area in the Poconos. I've been coming here for many years and watched it get better with fun runs and great snow. However, in the early days of the season, when they are blowing snow on most trails, midweek, there aren't alot of trails available to the public which results in overcrowding on the few usable trails....With so many faster skiers and boarders sharing the same trail with everyone else, it gets dangerous. Other than that, when all the trails are open, there's no place better in the area.

Brought my friend up to teach her how to ride. Camelback is a great place to learn! We had a nice time taking Meadows lift (L7) and riding down Laurel Glade for most of the day. There is a nice flat-ish area in front of the lift where you can practice the basics. My daughter spent her day in ski school and progressed very quickly from the Sun Kid Carpet to the brand new Coolmoor Carpet. She enjoyed the lunch they provided and the instructors were great! I tried out skiing for the second time ever, and found the Meadows to have more snow than the high traffic Laurel Glade. The mountain gets a good amount of sun from open to about 3:00 (we went in Feb). The trails were well covered with man-made snow, though it did get skied off by around 2 to reveal sketchy ice patches. Cafeteria had lots of hot options which change often, and there is a bar in the cafeteria, as well as a pub with their own food offerings. Bottom line: Camelback is a great mountain close to Philly with lots of space and instruction for beginners and a few hard trails, too. I go there as often as I can and I will continue to recommend it to friends.

Bought a 2 day ski lift ticket on liftopia but you still had to go to pick up window each day. Was hoping that it was a 1 time visit to window, but its not. Also make sure you save your receipts when you purchase your lift tickets. Had a incident where we attached the ticket to the yellow tie and it wasnt attached to the clothing yet (i know dumb)so we cut it and needed another yellow tie. we went to window and we needed the receipt and the ski lift ticket.

My friends and I went on a wendsday it was great not packed had a great time thanks to liftopia for a great deal on the lift ticket. One thing I suggest is to rent ur skis or boards at a different place. When ur on the road to camelback hit the 1st house it's a brown house that rents boards blades and skis at a great price. Skis and boots and blades are about $24 boards and boots are about $28 not no bad and u are ready to get ur ticket and start riding. Another thing is park at the bottom lot by the bunny hill this way when ur done u can just ski to the bottom and get right into ur car when ur ready to leave. Hope this helps anyone have a great time.

Conditions were great 2/3, the high speed Quad moved you to the top quickly. The area while small has several intense drops, all be-it very quick. I'd say you could ski the chair in 11 minutes. I liked the smaller size, very easy to get to the lodge for a break, easy to run to car (BTW the place was empty Thurs). Very clean operation, I will definately return.

I went on Sat 1/29 and Sun 1/30. It was snowing lightly on Sat and conditions were GREAT. On Sun, the heavy use and lack of new snow caused the powder to bunch up and left icy patches scattered throughout. If you want to get in a lot of runs, avoid the quads! The Marc Antony and Cleopatra lifts had little to no wait all day long on a crowded weekend.

Camelback was great. For beginners and intermediates there were a lot of trails, even from the top of the mountain, you don't get bored. And, even for those more expert, not me, there seem to be plenty of blacks to keep you going. It's a great value in the mid-atlantic, especially with Liftopia. And, it was not even close to as busy as all the reviews made it out - we hardly waited for one of many lifts over an entire weekend there.

Just do what u came to do whatever your skill level. Go with a game plan a d try to execute it like you have it. Don't let better skilled people ruin your experience and if you have an out going personality, take a chance at asking for pointers from other riders. Snowboarders are cool if u look the part. Skiers are not as cool but willing to help if you show need. Now go SHRED some POWDER

I went on the Thursday before Xmas. First, at the lift ticket windows, go to windows 12/13; they are on the online sales windows (but not labeled as such). Good mountain for beginners and intermediates. I found their blacks to be steep, but short. They were also very straight. Some trails were closed due to the very windy day. The food in the bar is reasonably priced which is unusual at lodge bars. Took me 1 hr and 45 minutes to drive up from King of Prussia, PA.

Not sure what DiDi is talking about? Every mountain has inexperienced riders. Saying that people the mountain ignores dangerous skiers is like saying cops ignore criminals. Cant be everywhere at once. I love Camelback!!! Beginners and all. They could do without the ELITIST skiers that think they own the mountain though.
