Montage Mountain Reviews & Tips (26)

Typical small town local (except newer) hill(1984)1st timer at the mountain Tues $19.84-$10 coupon $9.84 total for lift tix 9-5. Good challenging lower terrain. Slow lifts lower the value considerably. Great place to just ride the rails all day daydreaming your life away. Glade trail needs orange circles warnings for last drop back to trail. However made fresh tracks days after last snowfall. Brought lunch which is frowned upon with signage. I don't think they have an area for brown baggers, I'm a rebel so I ate anyway and no one seemed concerned on a tues. Beginners and even Intermediates stay away from ALL double diamonds no matter what your friends say or do, think for yourself. I've got 30 years and these are STEEP and probably more often slick/icy with harden bumps than they are soft/turnable. Always wear a helmet. Bar is very nice with many good diff beers. Great sunset down road out down mountain on way out. Overlooking where "The Office" was based is added bonus!

Montage can be fun, but it can also be frustrating. In order to get to the blue and black slopes, you have to ride the very slow lift that goes to the beginner slopes and traverse across to the blue or black. If you have someone without their own equipment, be prepared to walk a long distance to get to the lift. We had a great day on Monday. Weather was great! Sun was warm and it wasn't busy so there were no lines which is good because ALL of the lifts are slow even the one that services the black trails. Our daughter is an early intermediate skier so it was great for her. Lodge is very nice with decent food although selection is limited if the restaurant isn't open.

High school employees were not customer oriented at ALL. Waited 1.5 hours for family rentals while three kids working ski/snowboard line joked with each other and were unfocused. The line began to move when adult supervisors showed up to crack the whip. will rent from Ski Shack down the road from the resort before ever dealing with that mess again. Also paid for a youth helmet rental at the gate only to be told they ran out when I walked up to the helmet table. There hS got to be a better system.

Decent day considering it was 3 degress with -15 wind chill. Just have to stay covered. They definitely need high speed lifts. I spend more time on the lifts than i do on the hill.

Do not, I repeat do not allow any of those young inexperienced girls touch your snowboard. Paid for a hot wax and the girl who did it scraped big scratch marks up and down the sides of the board. Worse hot wax job I have ever seen. No care was given to the final product. I was told the scratch marks were "wax residue" and would wipe off. Ahh,no they were scratches put in by an inexperienced young girl who should not have been touching equipment.

One of few eastern Pennsylvania places left who still offers NASTAR gate racing open to public, not to mention at great rates. Beware of outdated and slow lifts which may be done intentionally to discourage tourist overflow. There are no high speed ones here so cold days feel colder when you're getting to the top. Very clean lodge with the best bar out of all area competitors as far as decor, selection, and service.

We got a very good deal on lift tickets for montage. We have gone there many times and it still is a good place to go for the price. Unfortunately there are many issues I have. -first they do a horrible job of grooming. After a fresh snow the more advanced slopes were ungroomed. Having mounds of ungroomed snow on steep slopes is a challenge, and unsafe. -secondly their terrain parks are a joke. They are poorly set up and maintained even worse. They used to have a good park that was decently maintained, but now it's depressing. -last and most annoying was the lifts. The boarding area of some lifts was built up so high that your gear got crushed underneath the chair. You basically fell into the chair. This led to more stoppages than I have ever experienced. To add to the problem the lifts are obnoxiously slow even on the advanced terrain. Being on a lift for 10 minutes plus is unacceptable. It can be very fun, but be prepared to wait and be prepared for poor conditions when there should be perfect conditions.

This is NOT a place for snow babies... The Ski school was on the other side of the adult rental but and you had to bring walk your equipment and toddler back and forth outside. It was VERY inconvenient. I must say the people were all nice but the mountain lifts are poorly laid out. Over all an underwhelming experience for my young family.

Not the world's safest place to ski. Steep terrain, narrow and winding, and bad design in many ways, like a black diamond narrowing into a cat track that shoots you out sideways onto a double black diamond. We had one person go to the ER, which had 2 people from Elk and 13 from Montage, which is much smaller than Elk. That being said, the advanced/expert terrain is a lot of fun and much more varied than many places. Lots of talented ski patrol folks too. No water fountain at all and no water available till cafeteria opens. The endless supply of folks who start down a double diamond and then freeze when they hit the steep part provides endless entertainment on the lift - the terrain here is STEEP and if you head down the double diamonds you'd better be prepared, particularly if you stay to your left. The middle double diamond seems the easiest and had the best snow the days I went. If you walk from the parking lot to the lift and want easier terrain, go right as you face the top of the lift, go to the next lift on the right and take it up. You can get to the greens or blues from the top if you want. Didn't see airboarding but it sounds interesting.

It was over 20 years ago that I was last at Montage. My wife and the 2 kids went and we had a great time. Good terrain for all of us. Only downside was the 48 plus steps with all our gear and the kids from the parking lot. Next time we will probably park over by the lift by the parking lot and have the kids ski down to the lift and I will walk down to the ticket booth and meet them at the lift and when we are done take the lift back to the parking lot.

Avoid snowboarding/skiing when they make snow. The snow blast on the face resulted in low visibility (safety issue) and numbness of the face even with the goggles and face shield. Purchase the adult meal plan rather than lift only - the pirce is about the same.

I'm alway concerned for my little guy's safety no matter where we go. Their easiest greens are a little tough for the little guys. It's a big jump from there bunny hill that's my only complaint. Many considerate and able skiers around so I worried very little for any collisions skiing the greens and the blues with him. Good savings through liftopia. The food in the lodge was a bit pricey but expected. The lodge during lunch time was a little chaotic. The ski lift workers were friendly and helpful. The staff did a impressive job with their snow making. Overall one of the better places to go.

Dec 30 was my first trip to Montage and I was delighted by what I found there. As a Marylander who lives much closer to Whitetail, Liberty, and Roundtop, Montage was twice as far as those other resorts but that was about the only downside to this trip. For starters, the value that I got from the Liftopia tickets was outstanding. The mountain is open from 8:30 am - 10:00 pm and the ticket is good for the entire day (not an 8-hour flex or separate ticket for night skiing like some other places). The staff there are very friendly and quite helpful. They even offer a free quick wax at the rental shop! My only complaint is that the parking needs some work and for those who need handicap access, I didn't see any way to drive down to the base. You have to walk from a gravel lot down several flights of stairs to get to the slopes. If there was another way to do it, it wasn't evident. Since snow is a rare commodity in the mid-atlantic these days, Montage was blowing snow 24/7 which made it rather challenging at night since my goggles kept icing over. There was decent coverage that afforded us a number of runs open with various degrees of difficulty. My teenaged boys enjoyed Montage and we left feeling quite pleased with the whole experience. One very nice feature about Montage is that it is surrounded by a number of mid-grade hotels (Hampton Inn, TownPlace, Staybridge, etc.) and a large outdoor mall with some great restaurants so it is very easy to go off the mountain midday, grab a bite or a nap or even a movie since they have a monster Cineplex there, and then return for several more hours of skiing. I don't know what Montage is like when it's busy but we had virtually no wait on the lifts and the slopes were not crowded at all. At night, it felt like we had the mountain to ourselves! I look forward to coming back with my children again.

I have been skiing for 50 years and always enjoy Montage Mountain. With mountain divided into an upper easier half and a lower expert half with its own high speed quad lift we were able to get 6 runs an hour on very nice man made powder. We only had a couple of open runs, being the start of the season, but still were able to ski almost 24,000 vertical feet in the seven hours we were there. We had a great family time! The slopes were not crowded and the longest lift line was four people in front of us, so we had to wait about 30 to 60 seconds one time. We had a great time flying down the slopes and getting a quick ride back up.

First visit here for snowboarding. Loved the trails, especially the black diamond and double black diamond. As stated by others though, a little disorganized on the lifts and in the parking lot. Was able to get a seat right away in the bar area but was reprimanded for bringing food in. There were no signs that said otherwise. As far as the lodge goes, it was crowded but they all are when the kids are off from school. Its definitely worth another trip. Loved the discount from Liftopia, however, they couldn't find our reservation when we got there. Again, I chalk it up to disorganized staff.

Great snow, good runs, great skipatrol. Disappointing: staff, overall organization of parking, traffic, lift lines, lodge, lockers I would consider this a day trip only

The snow was good on Saturday and unbelievably great on Sunday. The lifts were all very low and not well taken care of. They slammed into your lower calves. The black diamond and blue runs were plenty long and challenging. The staff was disorganized and didn't have answers to basic questions. The parking was disorganized and the so called lodge was like a high school cafeteria. Children ran around unsupervised. The restaurant was a total zoo and it took forever to get a table and even longer to get your food. Not a pleasant place. The actual skiing was great but the rest of the experience was sorely lacking. With so many choices I probably will not return.

Mountain empty until lunch time on MLK weekend, no lift lines!! Fair conditions and grooming. Good mix of terrain for a PA mountain. I'd recommend for a day trip but not much more.

THE INSTRUCTORS WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. WE WENT SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING, AND PEOPLE IN OUR GROUP WERE AT ALL DIFFERENT LEVELS, BUT THEY HAD TRAILS FOR ALL OF US! WE WENT ON A TUESDAY, THE PRICE WAS INCREDIBLY LOW! IT WAS REALLY GREAT! ONLY PROBLEM: THERE WERE A FEW ICY PATCHES NOT ROPED OFF. HAD A FEW FALLS BEFORE WE REALIZED WHERE THEY WERE.
