Nice little 'resort' not many people in Early April. staff and lifts were great. I don't agree with some of the comments about not being groomed, I thought most of the groomable blues and double blues were in pretty good condition considering the poor snow this year. I'll be back and happy that some of the complainers are clearly going to avoid this nice relaxed place next season. I thought the Dreamcatcher area was quietest and actually had some great cruising blues.

Went with my family beginning in April. Snow conditions stunk! Although after skiing at Deer Valley I found out that other resorts groomed and maintained there snow much better than Canyons. Management at the Canyons tried to save an extra buck by not blowing snow and grooming as often as the other resorts. Big Mistake Canyons. I wont be back!

Just got back from my trip in Utah. Boarded Snowbasin, Brighton, Snowbird and last Canyons. By far the Canyons had the worst conditions. A good portion of the mountain had no snow at all. Only reason we even went to the canyons was we had pre booked with liftopia. Had I known it was that bad I would have saved my money or I would have gone back to one of the other three mountains we visited.

Visited the Canyons last week (March 28th) highly impressed with the grooming efforts & snow conditions considering the extremely warm weather. It was my first visit the Canyons, I have skied 10 of the 14 Utah resorts and have to share that the Canyons staff was incredibly friendly, helpful with guidance on the mountain!

My husband (intermediate snowboarder) and I came here for the first time. The staff and the lifts were great. The deal from liftopia was fantastic. However, we would probably never return. Most of the runs were very narrow and flat. Though the weather can't be controlled, the grooming was poor and there were so many flat sections that even my intermediate husband really wasn't enjoying himself.

I have been snowboarding at the Canyons back in the 90's the last year when this resort was still called "Wolf Mountain", so this was my 2nd time snowboarding at this big resort. The current owner Talisker has completely upgraded the lifts and invested in real estate and facilities. It shows! The terrain is extensive and offers something for every type of skier or snowboarder. The only negative I have to say is that the trails in the Canyons are narrow and sometimes the trails get crowed. That is why I prefer Park City Resort or Deer Valley for skiing. Anyway I would go back there any day and would particularly recommend this resort to families with kids and anyone who wants to see the most amazing ski-in/ski-out lodges & cabins.

This was our first trip with our kids and Canyons was an awesome place for the family! Our 9 year old twin boys loved it!! They took lessons and the instructors were great, super patient and fun! They were able to manage the great, centralized green meadows on their own! The staff is extrememly helpful. At each map there was a guide to help you out. They steered us to runs that we could manage and great restaurants. By their reccommendation, we went to Cloud Nine to enjoy the great food up there! We also loved the Belgian Waffles! All the staff are very helpful! I saw many instructors helping others that were not even in a class. Apparantly we were very lucky with the snow conditions, perfect spring skiing! We love The Canyons and are ready to book our next trip!!

excellent resort...truly a great place for anyone who enjoys varied terrain. For intermediate, know your limitations as the blue's at Canyons may be a bit steeper than elsewhere. The Condor Express offers great glade skiing.

Hated it!! It's like a mall at the mountain. Very steep intermediate terrain, hard to move about the mountain with the lift configurations. Over priced food. We will NEVER go back.

We just returned and LOVED the Canyons and plan to go back next year. Customer service was excellent. (Ex: My husband's lift ticket came off during a run, a lift operator volunteered to get a replacement while we skiied - we had the receipt - and then refused a tip when we got it from him.) The slopes are beautiful. For those looking for wide open runs (groomers and moguls, too) hang to the north side off the Sun Peak and Super Condor lifts. We also were very pleased with the kids ski lesson programs. Our 6-yr-old had 3 days of lessons and was able to keep up with us on the blues and even took us through a number of challenging alleys that he discovered during lessons. Our only complaint was that the food was quite pricey at the base, but check out the Umbrella Bar and Alpine House. Mountain food prices were the same as any resort we have been to. Last tip: If you are staying at the Westgate, get your rentals from Aloha. The coordination between the businesses could not make it more convenient for you. We have a great week!

My 12 year old and I shredded at both Canyons and Park City mountain resort. If this is your first trip, do both! Start at PCMR day of arrival since you can ride until 9pm. Then do Canyons, the largest resort in Utah and the 4th largest in the US. It is very spread out and, contrary to what I've been reading, the runs are not too short unless you strictly do Blacks, Double Blacks and love moguls. There are Blues and double blues that turn green and at either Canyons or PCMR you can ride for 3 to 3.5 miles before stopping. You just have to get to know your way around. I must admit PCMR seems to have better grooms at some times but there are great powder runs near the edges of the runs at Canyons as well. Canyons makes tons of snow also, so this is a plus. It is fluffy, not granular, so, except for the early morning "crunch", we were happy. The blacks and doubles do have thin spots do to lack of snow, but this is Mother Nature's fault. My advice is start at the Orange Bubble, NOT at the first lift you see. Take Chicane down and then start working your way towards your left and by lunchtime you will be near the Iron Mountain Lift and ready for tougher terrain or more advanced runs. Then spend the rest of the day continuing and then working your way back. If you can accomplish this, you will welcome a break at closing time. PCMR is easier with respect to the fact that ALL runs lead to the base camp but then again, this causes congestion at times. We had NO lines at either resort and staff at both were equally pleasant and helpful. PCMR has mnore shops etc. but if your main focus is skiing or boarding, you will be happy at either resort. ALL local transportation is free and runs every 1/2 hour and shuttles to and from airport are very reasonable so don't bother renting a car unless there are more than 4 people or you want to sightsee in the mountains.

I had a great trip to The Canyons. Yeah, it was a bad year for snow, but all the resort employees that we dealt with were much nicer than I have encountered at other resorts. Very good experience and would visit again.

I would definitely skip Park City and hit up the Canyons. It's worth a week trip, the mountain is so huge that you can spend an entire day on one side. Great tree runs, bombing trails and cruise lanes. This mountain has a little bit of everything and I will definitely be back. It is not overcrowded and the lifts are plentiful making lines almost nonexistent.

No snow but nice runs off of the Sun Peak express. Echo and Eclipse had a beautiful view and were well maintained. Delicious lunch at Sun Lodge, I had the best salad I've ever had at a ski resort! Boarder friendly place except for the rip cord tow rope to get back to the base. Super friendly staff. Bubble lift is awesome but the mid point unloading point is really tough for snowboarders. (steep ramp with a sharp turn) Will be happy to go back, hopefully when there's snow.

January 11 Conditions are at best fair. Have been at the canyons before and always had a great time. Can't say that this time, not the resorts fault, just no snow. Many lifts are closed leaving half the trails with no access. Park City is a great place but this is just a bad season so far, restaurants & town are reaalll quiet.

amazing mountain. not so great for beginners, however. all the new improvements really make it a great place to ski. the orange bubble now makes it much easire to get up the mountain and access terrain, as well as it opens up the silverado bowl which it goes over. these runs are not used often but they are nice. ninety nine ninety is siqq, as is that entire side(dreamscape, dreamcathcer, peak 5) . iron mountian isnt great but its differntet and enjoyable. if u want groomers, got to deer valley.canyons is a great intermediate-expert mountina. also i second that lookout cabin is amazng

Great place to snowboard. Spent four days on groomed trails and terrain park and the fifth day we had a foot of pow! Hit trails right after they opened and heard people saying, "Go Leprechaun"! as I was shredding pow for hours. This place has everything; pow, groomed trails, natural half pipes, terrain park, two mile trails, moguls, you name it. Jumps so big you might not think you will ever come back to earth! Got my tickets from Liftopia and saved big bucks. Going back again next Spring Break.

We love heading out there to ski with NO crowds, tons of powder ...and so many trails to pick from. One reviewer did comment on the "short" runs which I cannot confirm - however, there are many tree/glad runs and far out at DreamCatcher many runs were you're by yourself during the week. It is a vast terrain - and luckily not all runs are groomers - as tehy are at DEER Valley. so I guess it depends what you're looking for - there are nice blue runs fully groomed - but plenty of choice for teh intermediate/advanced skier. We have visited PC Mountain (don't care for, too busy) and Deer Valley ( too many groomers)- we love as well ALTA and SnowBird for the beauty of teh alpine area surrounding it

We did not enjoy The Canyons AT ALL!! Way too many trails to slide along to get to chairlift. The actual ski runs were short compared to trails. The snow was soft the previous day, ungroomed the day we were skiing, so we had alot of "snow turds" to contend with. In addition, the runs were all very, very narrow, making it even more difficult. The employees at the ticket booth were great, but others...not so great. Will not go back.

The Canyons was an awesome resort with great instructors. I took 2 half-day lessons and learned enough to make it down a blue run. The mountain was great, but there are not a lot of green trails, so be prepared to ski the High Meadow lift a lot if you're a beginner. I highly recommend this resort. Also, if you ski and you're having issues with your boots, be sure to check out SureFoot. They were a huge help!!!

Canyons rocks...straight up...if it's snowing and you're looking for the deepest powder on the mountain head over to 9990 and the Peak 5 chairs and from there head over to Dream Peak where you'll find deep stashes in the trees and under the Dreamscape and Dreamcatcher chairs...from there you can take a cat track down to the new Iron Mountain chair and experience the new terrain on that far side of the mountain...it's totally sweet and really uncrowded. After you finish all those runs on that side of Canyons...head over to Lookout Cabin for an excellent lunch...best food on the mountain...hands down...but beware...once you eat there you're hooked...anywhere else you try will be a big disappointment compared to it...it's the only place I'll go to eat when I'm at Canyons...it's THAT good...check it out...you'll be stoked you did...:-)

I loved the Canyons! Overall, I thought the terrain was more difficult than other mountains. I didn't necessarily think it was a beginner mountain. The mountain was huge and I'm glad I had two full days to spend there. I hardly ever waited in a line although I was there mid week. The Liftopia deal was great and I had no problems getting my two day pass.

Liftopia worked great! First time staying at resort, very good mountain for advanced skiers . The blues are a bit inconsistent, some are greens and some are very steep and not well marked for the new blue skier . Doesn't seem like they groom too much, there were several treacherous blues over on iron mtn 2 days after getting 7 inches. Steep pitches with Northeast icy conditions. The other issue is bottleneck at bottom if either the gondo or bubble lift is down, which happened 2 out of 5 days. Westgate grill very good dinner with great waitstaff.

Great conditions! Often have to take more than one lift to get to where you want to go. Agree with other comments that the trail map isn't as clear as others but the chairlift crew could usually help direct or recommend where to go. Super friendly and helpful. Some runs were super crowded while others were completely empty. As a boarder, be prepared for lots of flat areas...nothing you have to unstrap for unless you don't know its coming, which can be frustrating. But if it happens once, you know for the next time. Plenty of spots to find fresh pow even days after a storm. Only 2 indoor eating areas on the mountain, others are outdoor so be aware of that depending on the weather. We got stuck eating outdoors while snowing because of where we were on the mountain. Lots of varied terrain, great stuff for all levels. Might be tough for a starting boarder between the flat areas and the challenging blue runs to get to the easier blue runs.

The Canyons is by far one of the best resorts in North America. I fly out from California a few time a year just to board The Canyons. Better than Mammoth! It's funny to read the post by Stephanie on 2/14. There is only one flat area at the Canyons- in front of Red Pine Lodge. Great riding, even after a week with little to no snow. The only icy spots I found were the heavy-traffic greens and blues. As big as the Canyons resort is, there's even more if you're willing to go out of bounds a bit. I wouldn't go as far as to say there's something for everyone; if you're a beginner, it's a tough place to learn. But for anyone intermediate or above, there's more than enough terrain of all types.

This is my second visit to the Canyons. I was expecting a lot because my first visit was so awesome. Favorite area was around Super Condor. It takes a little effort to access, but it had fewer guests and some great intermediate/advanced runs. My visit this time around was OK, but not what I came to Utah for. Conditions were very hard-pack turning to icy in the afternoon. Day 2 we went to Snowbird and the snow was undoubtedly better. If you want nice snow, Canyons can have great stuff, but if there hasn't been a 5 inch storm within 3 days and it's in the 20s or windy I would be wary to buy here again.

Be sure to review the trail map in advance. The runs are not well marked and getting around can be a bit of a challenge. The Canyons is missing some of the "little things" you see at other mountains and their staff is not well trained. It is a beautiful mountain and worth a visit, but expect a little frustration along the way.

Got to give The Canyons props for the base area re-do. Was so much easier to access the west side of the resort than it used to be. I really enjoyed most of the runs being on the steep side and recommend to those who like variety. You can get anything from groomers to off-piste.

I am an advanced beginner/low level intermediate skier and do not recommend the Canyons. There are not enough green runs and the ones they have are way too short. Some of the easier blue runs cannot be accessed without going down Chicane which is a bit challenging and even more so when icy. Another World's initial slope is steep and definitely rates a double blue. Alta Ski Resort and Deer Valley have many more long runs for beginners and low intermediate skiers and make the day a joy

Canyons is an excellent mountain Keep in mind that the Canyons is more of a off-bounds type of mountain. Not as many groomed trails so if you want to ski only groomed, go to deer valley or the canyons. Tons of powder stashed in skis, canyons is more of a bumps, crud, moguls mountain although the front side has some ripping runs.

I actually didnt expect much out of the Canyons, but was very surprised at the amount of terrain they have. Being an east coast skier, the groomers were amazing, but what was most surprising was the amount of pseudo out of bounds terrain they serve. If you have avalanche equipment and a partner, you can access a ton of cool terrain just out of bounds and still ski back to the lift.

Points to consider while writing:
  • - Definitely talk about the snow, the lifts, the quality of the run, the staff/instructors
  • - Would you go again?
  • - What would you say to others with your skill level who are interested in going?
