Chestnut Mountain Reviews & Tips (8)

We had a very nice experience, the process using liftopia was very easy! My rental however was very crappy, the bindings on my board were almost impossible to click. They really need to make some powder at night, the temp dropped and the trails turned to straight ice, making it impossible to carve and all falls felt like i hit concrete. Still very pricey for what it was. But we will return maybe next year. Old Main seemed much steeper this year, which i did not care for, as i am still a beginner.

We enjoyed our day at Chestnut Mountain and it is becoming one of our favorite places to go in the area. The runs are a little more challenging for a beginner due to it being a little bit steeper there. The lines were short and the snow was good even though it was a warmer day. The lodge is nice and the restaurant was a great place to stop for lunch. The service was speedy and the food was great. The view is beautiful and it is a nice area to visit with downtown Galena being close by. I always enjoy going to the Galena winery:) Overall, a great place to visit and ski.

Great ski terrain and challenging runs. Excellent conditions mid-March and not crowded at all. We really love skiing here.

Getting lift tickets was a breeze with Liftopia! Presented the invoice from when I placed the order and the cashier had no problems issuing the tickets! So easy and save some serious cash! Instructor was awesome and made our day very enjoyable. We plan to make this an annual family Christmas present!

3 of us skied there this past weekend. The snow conditions were as good as any that I have skied in the Midwest in over 20 years . We started on the far side to warmup then proceeded to hit the upper 3 jumps then the crossover jump and finally the bottom 3. And to think 20 years ago we would have been thrown out most places . chestnut is definitely the place to go within 3 hours of Chicago .9 . .

We had a great time. Terrific snow conditions - they could not have been better. The lodge has a very attractive European style. The view of the Mississippi and rolling hills are beautiful! We enjoyed seeing and hearing the trains go up and down both sides of the river. Galena is near by and fun to visit. This will be a trip we remember our whole life.

Make some snow at Nite, stop being soooooo cheeeeaaaappp ! IT really sucks to go all the way there and find solid ice groomed on the mountain because you are too cheap to make some fresh powder at nite.
