Snow Summit Reviews & Tips (17)

I've skied at Snow Summit for 25 years and agree completely with the guy who said that even if the other areas were free he'd still ski at Summit. BUT the grooming in March seemed far below average. Ridges between passes, holes, etc. My guess is that they just dragged the 'rake' over the snow once a night and that was it. Skiing isn't supposed to be WORK. After 2 days of this I decided the season was over. I can understand why they might slack off toward the end of the season and can't really condemn it, but it kept me off the hill when there was still snow. I still bought next year's season pass, though. I have faith!

It was fun. But the last day it was open it was very icy and I slipped and broke my wrist lol. Sooooo maybe don't go the last couple days of the season if you're a beginner lol

I got to go for free on my birthday, and with me and my brothers boards already owned, all we had to pay for was his ticket. Which was saved us $20 using liftopias discounts!

what is the closest accommodation to the slopes? Is it snow summit townhouses? In the map I see little bear lodge but is that just a restaurant bar or do they have lodging there. Ideally I'd like ski-in ski-out but I don't think they have it.

Actually my kids are beginners and Snow Summit is my favorite place to take beginners, especially when snow is disappearing from other resorts. Nice long greens some with nice rolling terrain exposing newbies to short areas of steeper terrain. Snow summit is IMO the best place in SoCal for the all-around experience. Not as much challenge as Bear Mountain or Baldy on a good day, but a ton of stuff in the middle Green/blue to Blue/Black. My only complaint this trip is that my daughter took a 2 hour lesson and came out *worse* than she went in. She was right at the point of turning in a wedge after her lesson a week before at Snow Valley (cheap and super for bunny run-only skiers). The instructor at the end of her Snow Summit lesson said she was having trouble standiing up straight while stopping in a wedge (?!?!?). She never had that problem when I taught her to wedge and, anyway, why was she focusing on stopping in a wedge when she was already starting to stop by turning? My daughter finally recovered after I told her to forget everything from the lesson and show me what she learned at Snow Valley last time :-/ And she did end up being better than just after the Snow Valley lesson so something good trickled through apparently. Lessons are hard to hold against the whole staff though right? Just wish I would have spied on the lesson a bit instead of heading off to coach my other daughter.

Lift tickets are $59 not $53 and on "peak" weekends it's $73. Still the best place to ride in SoCal.

SS is the only place worth skiing in SoCal, except for Waterman when it's open because of tradition. Even if the places with shorter drives are FREE they're a waste of time.

Snow Summit has always been the best but with my age now (51), the shorter & easier drives of others has persueded me to shorter distant others but will go to Summit if I have company. This is my first year of Semi-Retirement and the gas prices killed me. Now I now when I use to hear what limited income is!!!

Dont forget to have snow chains the road up to snow summit can sometimes be scary, Make sure to bring kneed pads and a helmet some parts of the Terrain can seriously hurt.

Wow! Very impressed with the savings with "liftopia.com". The whole process was flawless. Wish I had known about this website a long time ago. I will definitely purchase future lift tickets with them and refer my friends and family as well.

This place is alot of fun! The slopes are impressive and take a good amount of time to get to the bottom. The Lifts are extremely fast, efficient, and comfortable to ride. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here.

I love Snow Summit! My husband (who is an advance skier), my two boys (ages 5 and 8), and I love the Family Fun park. We all ski and love going over the jumps and racing down the hill. We also like Miracle Mile and the "back side" where we can zoom from the chair lift all the way to the base. We found an awesome family oriented cabin in Moonridge that we rent every time we go up http://www.vrbo.com/125010. It has a lovely porch, spa and kid's clubhouse. The cabin is very cozy with comfy beds, large flat panel TV, internet, Directv and just an overall great family oriented place to kick back after a fun day on the slopes!

We go to Snow Summit for 2 nights all the time when we can't get to Mammoth. We like booking our lodging with Big Bear City Concierge http://bigbearcityconcierge.com when we're going to stay. They have great discounts on lodging and turned us on to this site for the lift tickets.

Snow Summit is a great family resort. My kids are advanced beginning skiiers and I'm an intermediate, and yet we can all ski together. The "Family Park" area is a favorite with it's jumps. Yet, there's enough action for the advanced skiier as well. Trails are long and the view from the summit of the Lake is awesome. The ride from L.A. is only 2 hours but yet in bad weather and one, twisting mountain road, it can take a lot longer. (Don't forget your chains!) The town itself is very laid back--nothing fancy. No four-star resorts here. Most people stay in rented houses or small, cheap motels.
