Homewood Reviews & Tips (39)
When you redeem the printout for a ticket, go to the front of the building rather than the ticket windows in the back. The views of Lake Tahoe are great as usual.

Good "bunny hill" for beginners like me, since the lift is easier to get off than the regular sitting down lifts (at least in my opinion). It's also very pretty. The only complaint I have is the staff - 90% of the ones I talked to were not friendly at all and a couple were rude.

Park at the South Lodge, unless you are using some kind of online ticket deal in which case they will send you back to the Main Lodge area. Crowds are smaller on this side of resort, bar is better (though they only have two beers on tap and neither are craft brews), and you can still access the rest of the lifts.

I don't agree about the pricing being great. I was spoiled in the past when there were real bargain days. I agree the price is better than the big ego places. Food and drink is average, but the main reason so many love this place is the views and I am one of them. Lift lines don't bother me, but crowded runs do and Rainbow ridge gets rediculously crowded. I go here on weekdays when I can.

Views are great! Runs are decent.
The lifts are old and very slow. The only express lift was very crowded.
It might have been 3-day weekend, but service at the southern lodge was bad. No ice for drinks, no ketchup, no mustard, minimal food selection.

Snow and views were great. The cheaper prices were also nice. The North Lodge was crowded and hectic but I liked the more chill atmosphere and and layout of the South Lodge. The lifts are old and slow and only one has the front bar. I also think the lift placement is confusing and the separation between North and South Lodge is a hassle. I wish they had the trail map and a clock at every lift. As for the trails themselves, I would not take beginners to this mountain. While Homewood's trademark green runs run from the top of the mountain and offer great views, these runs are much too narrow and worse, much too crowded to be safe for anyone, let alone beginners. Collisions are very frequent and people ran into me so many times on Rainbow Ridge that I started avoiding the trail. The blue runs though were fun. I took an intermediate lesson and the instructor gave me some good pointers.

I've been here before and remember it having the best view of any resort and I was correct. What I didn't remember was how much fun this resort was as well. It had snowed a few days before and there was plenty of powder to be had in the trees all over the mountain. Lots of terrain to suit people beginning to advanced. The staff was super friendly and the resort has that charming mom and pop feel to it that a lot of the larger resorts in the area don't. My only suggestion to improve this place would be to upgrade some of the main lifts to expresses and this place would be my favorite Lake Tahoe resort, heck it might be my favorite anyways.

Still a great hidden gem. On storm days when the rest of the resorts are shut down head here for some great tree skiing.

Homewood is a great place for lessons. The resonable prices and great atmosphere of this locals favorite resort make it a fun experience.

I love Homewood, we really enjoy a lot. The classes and instructors were GREAT. I was not expecting !
Liftopia was great too !

Homewood is great and not so great if it's a windy, snowy day. At times they can be quite sheltered from the wind, but at the same time they have some seriously slow lifts. You may be down at the bottome alot quicker than it took to get to the top. The face is good at the North Lodge. The Quail face can be terrific, but you will have to hike out. I went last Friday and it was a beautiful day with great views of the lake as usual.

We go to Homewood every season for a 3-day trip, and we're never disappointed. As of this writing, they offer $25 tickets on Thursdays and Sundays for passholders to other resorts. We can ski 3 days and pay what we would for one day at Heavenly or Northstar, and not wait in lift lines half the day. This year we timed our trip perfectly, and went just a day after a 3-5' dumping. Skiing virgin lines on Quail Face was about as epic as it has ever been for me. Seriously...bring your snorkel after powder dumps out there. We prefer to ski off Ellis chair in the morning, and Old Homewood Express (in the trees!) in the afternoon. That works out well for the aspect of each side of the mountain.

Snowboarders need a leash! If you end up at the bottom and can't find your car,..chances are you are at the second parking lot!! Luckily they have a shuttle to take you to the other parking lot!
Homewood review written Mar 04 2012 - 02:17 PM
This is my favorite place.
Now that they finally have snow in Tahoe, you can't beat this place. Homewood has the least crowds out of anywhere. We got a foot of fresh snow the other day and I was making fresh tracks until close. Lots of great tree runs and OB.
Homewood review written Mar 01 2012 - 07:48 AM
Conditions were horrendous,as they have no snowmaking. It was all ice. We tried to return our tickets after one run. But of course Liftopia doesn't allow that. Some consideration should be made for such events.
Homewood review written Feb 28 2012 - 08:57 PM
The staff were terrific. Ski patrol very helpful when my wife broke a buckle on her snowboard binding. Harley in the repair shop was the man! he got her fixed up in no time, and back on the slopes for cheap.
Homewood review written Feb 22 2012 - 02:12 PM
Great price. Beautiful views! Slope conditions were crappy due to little snow and some ice, but better grooming could definitely helped. One area for a major improvement is better signage; probably the most poorly signed resort i've ever skied.
Homewood review written Feb 22 2012 - 02:10 PM
Early in the season, a day after a small snow, half the runs were closed down and the open runs were all in low cover condition. Every groomed run was miserable. That said, the park is beautiful, and my most enjoyable run went off the trails and through the trees. I would not go again except after a major storm.

Great for beginners! Great for families! Incredible view! Reasonable price!

The staff are supportive and friendly. When we locked our keys in our car they called their own maintenance crew to help us out! Great team work! Saved us from having to pay for a locksmith!
Ditto to all the sentiments regarding the fabulous views, great skiing, and a lot of bang for your buck.
Homewood review written Mar 31 2011 - 08:59 PM
Big mountain terrain with a small mountain feel. limited parking so use caution and arrive early on weekends. Great bang for the buck and views are the best of any ski resort in tahoe.
Homewood review written Mar 30 2011 - 08:54 PM
Good Discounts Liftopia! Keep it up! and Thank you.
..the snow was GREAT!
Homewood is one of the few "home feeling" resort around the Lake. I hope they keep it that way. Lots of fun different terrain to ski on! Love the tough stuff!
Homewood review written Mar 29 2011 - 05:52 PM
Seriously AWESOME powder day last Saturday!!! If you are a beginner, do your homework and find a place with more beginner runs. Homewood is incredible for Intermediate and Advanced. Reminded us of a June Mountain atmosphere!!! Will definitely return!!!
Homewood review written Mar 28 2011 - 09:42 PM
I would NOT recommend Homewood for beginning/advanced beginning snowboarders. The pole lift is very difficult for beginners & kids to navigate and the green trails from the chair lift are extremely narrow. This is my 4th boarding trip and I was extremely uncomfortable at Homewood.
Homewood review written Mar 18 2011 - 08:53 AM
I always enjoy Homewood as the runs are long and there is something for every ability. Incredible views and great people.
I was a little bummed when I purchased my lift ticket 3 days before my planned day with a group of us,(mono skiers) and they changed their minds and went to Mt. Rose for some deep powder. That is the risk of buying anything in advance. I hope to make it to Homewood sometime this season.
Homewood review written Mar 07 2011 - 02:21 PM
amazing hit the quail face for some fresh tracks!
Homewood review written Feb 22 2011 - 09:20 PM
The views rock and the price is right BUT we went on the Presidents Day Weekend was waaaaaay too crowded - I would never go again on a cword day but betting that any other time would be great. Runs are a little narrow for my taste but the views are awesome!
Homewood review written Feb 22 2011 - 05:40 PM
Our Liftopia tickets were pre-printed and awaiting us at the Homewood North Lodge main office. No need for a printed hardcopy (good thing, since our rental didn't have a printer).
Homewood review written Feb 16 2011 - 11:09 PM
This was the first time skiing Homewood after years at the other Tahoe resorts. Based on the runs, the snow, the price, and the location, I would definitely I would definitely come back.
Homewood review written Feb 16 2011 - 02:28 PM
The views alone are worth the lift ticket price. One could sit for hours above the Face Run and admire the views. I was empressed with the angles on the blue runs. they would be considered black diamonds at other resorts.
The black diamonds are off the hook!
Homewood review written Feb 13 2011 - 03:43 PM
Don't bring a camera or you will spend all day stopping to take pics instead of skiing. I've skied 7 resorts around the lake now, and this is by the far the most outstanding for views. Only Heavenly's ridge runs come close, but at twice the price. And definitely check liftopia for the tickets. The homewood office had them ready for us, our names right on the tickets.
Homewood review written Feb 09 2011 - 08:22 AM
head for ellis chair in the morning and then to homewood express in the afternoon. the macaroni and cheese is pretty bizarre but very filling.
Homewood review written Feb 08 2011 - 02:34 PM
We love Homewood. The views are great and the blue runs are perfect. Nice, intimate ski resort. Great choice of music at the lifts also. Lot's of Led Zeppelin
Homewood review written Feb 07 2011 - 04:05 PM
Not as many beginner trails as I would have liked, but the views are spectacular. My friends that are more advanced said there were some super fun blue trails though. For the price, convenient parking, and views, Homewood can't be beat. It took us less time to get our Liftopia tickets than our friends to get their lift tickets. Just go to the main office in the North parking lot. They will have them printed and ready for you.
Homewood review written Jan 31 2011 - 02:13 PM
Lots of fun runs and great lake views. Awesome on powder days. If it's sunny, bring your camera for photo ops.
Don't forget your leash - they won't let you on the main chairs without it
Homewood review written Jan 31 2011 - 02:03 AM
Great laid-back mountain. But beware, the Homewood employees don't have a clue how to process Liftopia tickets - took half an hour and at least 8 people to finally decide they were clueless and issue a comp ticket. DUH!!
Homewood review written Jan 15 2011 - 02:16 PM
love the snow it is much fun than other resorts as it more pristine and groomed
Homewood review written Jan 11 2011 - 08:45 PM
As A fifteen yr local at North Lake Tahoe (1980-1995) I can tell you that there is better snow at Homewood than at Heavenly ( it gets blown off of Heavenly due to prevailing west winds) & it is icy at s. shore but Homewood is protected and retains its snow pack better with closer views of the lake and less blizzard conditions than Squaw Valley or Alpine Meadows .
Homewood review written Dec 29 2010 - 02:20 PM
no place better for the view, price and slopes...
outrageous views..best i think in tahoe. no prettier place for views of the lake as you ski.. we will travel there every year.
