Marmot Basin Reviews & Tips (3)

I vote that it is one of the most under-rated hills in Canada. There are some rocks, but only a few, and if you keep your eyes open you'll learn where quickly. The other two downsides can be a bonus as well; 1) No on hill accommodations. This means that you need to stay in town, and can't jump into a hot tub and watch the people fly by. It also means that the hill isn't over-run with people, though, so it makes for better skiing. Rarely if ever do you have to wait in line to get on a lift. 2) No night skiing. I think this is due to Jasper being a dark sky preserve, and is tied to the lack of accomm, but if you want to get in a full day it's best to hit the slopes as early as possible. I love Marmot, and have moved back to the area partly to be able to go out and ski it again. The one caution I have is that it is not the best beginner's hill. There seem to be a high ratio of black and double blacks, and there are very few long runs available for beginning skiers. There is basically a choice of two runs from the upper mountain for this (green/blue) level, but there are 4-6 available on the lower mountain. If you are a beginner it may be wise to stick to the lower mountain until you want to try some more challenging runs. It's a heck of a lot cheaper- I do not think it's a great value to pay $50 more for only two choices.

As a beginner I booked private lessons, there was 4 in the group. We had the undivided attention of our instructor called Aarron! He was excellent. The snow quailty was amazing just powder. We loved it that much we came home and rebooked for two weeks time! By the end of the lesson we had the basics to board down a green run by ourselves! I would definitly recommend the lessons!

Marmot Basin is one my favorite hills. Almost NO flat spots which is fantastic for a boarder and if you like jumps there are plenty of little ones all over the hill. The best part are the glades off the Eagle Ridge Chair. Last year Marmot had epic snowfall!!!! Hoping this will be a common theme.

  • - Would you go again?
  • - What would you say to others with your skill level who are interested in going?
