Fernie Alpine Reviews & Tips (10)

Best ski vacation in a long time! Fernie rocks. Not sure why it's not more well-known, other than it may be more challenging than most resorts, though there is something for everyone. Can't beat the tree skiing, and if there has been natural snow, Polar Peak is excellent. Morning Glory is well worth the short uphill walk from the Timber Chair; we found freshies a few days after the storm. Go there!

Fernie is really nice, a lot of different terrain and with 5 bowl there's always place to find new snow. Polar Peak quite often icy and Cedar Bowl will bring the best quality of snow ; take a little walk and get some sweet turns on farthess slopes. One thing that I dislike is the number of lifts you need to use to get to the top of the mountain.

Take into consideration the exchange rate before buying. I saw lift tickets for sale on Loftopia for $64.37 and thought I was getting a deal because the on slope price for tickets in $89. So I'm feeling good because I'm thinking I'm saving $25. But the $89 was Canadian and the $64.37 was US. Factoring in the exchange rate, the actual cost of the ticket at full price at the window translates to $63.30. So I actually spent a dollar more using Liftopia than if I had bought the tickets on site. Lesson learned. The hill is worth visiting if you are on your way or coming from somewhere else. That is, make it a part of a larger tour but going there just for Fernie is probably more practical if you're only an hour away.

Fernie rocked - great morning powder last weekend up top, even though we had to down-lift, as the bottom was all melted. Never waited in a single line. Liftopia - not so much. Watch that prices are in USD for Canadian resorts, and don't accurately track prices at the lifts. My own fault for not doing more research, but hopefully this will help someone else from over-paying.

Unfortunately this season doesn't look to be going Fernies way. There was rain and above normal temperatures shortly before our group made the journey to Fernie. This left the mountain with a thick ice layer, which is not very enjoyable if you are a powder seeker. Obviously this is uncontrollable, so will need to come back another year when hopefully the weather is more cooperative.

We had already booked rooms a LONG time ago so we went even though they said there wasn't any snow.... we had a great time!! was it perfect??? no... BUT there was enough snow to have fun = they did amazing job of grooming at night so the mornings were a different hill than at night..... just go and have a good time!

Liftopia provided a great bargain for lift tickets. I stayed in town which offers a great selection of eating places and shops including good ski and board shops. Fernie resort offers change-of life skiing and boarding experience. Forget the mega resorts this place offers better slopes from low end to the most challenging slopes your can find. They have real snow here.

Fernie. Is. Awesome. I can see why so many people move here - the powder is incredible, it was the perfect mild temps when I was there, the people are uber friendly (with more than a few auzzies - lifties snow dancing at the lifts) and I'm not sure why, but for the whole 5 days I was there I never ran into a lift line. Saturday was a tiny bit busy, but no where NEAR what it's like at the bigger (overrated!) resorts. Check out the Cedar Bowl and head to Lost Boys Cafe halfway up the mountain for lunch and a cold brewski. Fernie, the next time I see you won't be soon enough..

Any of the bowls are great, but do trek through the glades and find the pow.
