Sun Peaks Resort Reviews & Tips (8)

Excellent and large resort. I would recommend it to any level of skier. No lift lines. The snow was light and dry and the grooming was world class of you wanted to open it up.

Took the kids for the first time and they loved it! The lift staff are great with kids, they will slow the lift for you or help little guys get on! Tip if you are renting: you can pick up your rentals from 4:30pm the day before you ski, helps to get on the slopes asap!!

Be careful when booking. These rates are in US dollars even though you are booking at a Canadian ski resort. After you choose a date and age category it asks you to check US or Can. They convert so a $42 ticket will cost you $60 Canadian. Sun Peaks Resort is well worth it even when our dollar is not!

The lift lines were quick if any at all, the staff was amazing and super friendly.. that's everyone.. from lift operators, to massage therapists, to restaurant workers, to rental dudes, everyone!!! There are really awesome easy runs that are long enough to get a great run out of and interesting enough to keep you going to improve yourself. I felt like a professional by the end of our trip!! Awesome snow and very well groomed! We will go back time and time again!

get there early so you can park your vehicle close to the rental area. Most lifts open at 8:30am and the runs are spectacular from early on! If you want to lunch on the weekends, go either early than 12 or later than 1:30 as the 2 pub type restaurants that are the closest line up at lunch time.

My husband and I have travelled to Sun Peaks two years in a row. I am from Ontario, he is from BC, he has experienced West Coast Boarding, until the past two years, I had not. I will say, after experiencing the hard pack in Ontario, then travelling out west to fresh Pow, I have no desire to board here ever again. Sun Peaks has a wide assortment of trails, last year we went during the Ontario March Break, not a single line up out there. This year we caught the family day holiday, and it was like boarding at Blue. Horrible, rude people, packed runs and kids that don't pay any attention. So I would recommend on avoiding that holiday out there. My brother in law said he had never seen the village or runs that busy in all the years they have lived out there. There are many ski in ski out rentals, the accommodations all seem top quality. Restaurant food is okay, but we're not big on eating out at home, so do with that what you will. The lift lines do not exist, and if you get out on a fresh POW day, it's FANTASTIC! Everything you can imagine and more. It truly is a hidden secret for Canada. I had never heard of the mountain until my in laws moved out there. There are some great long runs, from Top of the World down 5 Mile, top to bottom will give you a burn. I would highly recommend this mountain for beginners and intermediates, for advanced alpine boarders you may want something a bit more challenging (this is based on some advanced skiers advice to me). We plan to go once a year. Love the runs, love the snow quality, and NO line-ups!

We have travelled to SunPeaks, the 3rd largest resort in Canada, ranked 10th in NA by Conde Nast at different times- Dec, XMas Holidays, Jan, Feb., March Break, April Easter Weekend for the past 14 years. Over that time I believe we have only had 2 days of rain. The snow is dry, the hills are well groomed but with plenty of hills and glades that are never groomed. We stay at Senator Nancy Greene's Cahilty Lodge where when you walk in you see her silver and gold medals, world cup and a host of other medals. We have a full kitchen and ski right out the back door to the lift. In Jan-Feb the resort is empty, and the rates are low save for MLK weekend and Pres Weekend The Cahilty offers guests 1-3 hour tour with Al Raine and Nancy Green Raine-if you are there take one as they are both excellent instructors for every level. Last year we skied for 45 days and were not bored. With 122 marked hills and several gladed runs you won't be. We have skied many other areas in Alberta-BC as well as 3 in Utah and we love it here. I am 67, Diane 64 and most of you realize that I am very fortunate to have a wife who wants to ski (here)for a large part of the winter, especially after having a major injury at another western(but far more crowded) resort. Go to their website at and see the videos.

Points to consider while writing:
  • - Definitely talk about the snow, the lifts, the quality of the run, the staff/instructors
  • - Would you go again?
  • - What would you say to others with your skill level who are interested in going?
