Families have been coming here for more than four decades because this family-run area offers what they want: three separate beginner areas, a fine suite of cruising terrain, enough steep stuff to keep the family experts happy for a weekend, and programs designed to keep everyone happy. With the tubing park right in the thick of things and a large, central base lodge, there's little chance of getting lost. All trails lead home, and with a new triple in the Valley area getting to the trails entails very little waiting. Beginners will be thrilled to find a long top-to-bottom run just for them (Breeze to Zephyr to Blast), while East Wind, Duster, Squall Line, Cyclone, and Twister provide increasing levels of challenge to those who like to cruise. Four trails for the most advanced members of the family comprise the terrain in the middle part of the mountain. Tornado, Hurricane, Vortex, and the F.I.S. Race trail provide real teeth to this small mountain; the latter offers a genuine racing challenge. Besides hosting many a high school and league race, F.I.S. is home to the ski team of New England College.
